I'm glad they tell us these things. It informs us that their decisions are based on politics and religion, not on the important facets of the job.

Well plenty of companies offer job security, but the state has people convinced otherwise, so they're doing a good job marketing that. I just left a company that had a pension and a 401k and stock options. 401ks are not negative compared to pensions and anyone who thinks so just doesn't understand 401k. It's a lack of financial awareness, not a deficiency.

Well, most jobs aren't state jobs. So people still will have to go to college to get jobs that aren't govt jobs.

This is probably going to help out the state far more than the employees. Many of these positions pay significantly less than their non govt counterparts. Allowing people without degrees will help fill open positions.

Yep. I also dream of that as maybe a retirement trip. I'm in York, 30 is a staple of my travels east and west. And often more convenient than turnpike. But for longer trips, turnpike beats it for convenience.

Unless you want to get somewhere quickly. I don't mind taking 30 sometimes. But when I'm traveling a distance, in rush hour times, taking 30 can add a lot of drive time.

I lived in the land of "southern hospitality" for a few years. Returning home is when I realized people of PA are genuinely friendly. Not just for appearances.

It can be both. It's definitely a Pennsylvania tradition. PA has a lot of roots to Germany. Hence the pa Dutch culture.

Those are discount airlines that offer you a low fare. If you're traveling with no luggage, it's a good deal. If you fly other airlines, some of those fees are included. Often when you do the math on the cheap fare plus bags and carryon fees, you pay the same or more than booking with the other airlines. It's their business model.

I bet it filters out good waitstaff faster than bad. Anyone who is decent but relying on customer attitudes to pay the bills will go find something that pays steady.

Increase prices to cover the fee. Offer discounts on cash payments.
