Is this the first raise they’ve given themselves in a while?

Sadly, the US Atty will likely have to make an example out of a few people.

Good. I’m tired of this slow ass one day delivery.

Drunk. Standing on the railing, like Jack Dawson. Rubbing one out while thinking of Rose.

When they objective is to shake down a mark, you dont want to bleed them dry on the first go. You take a little here, and a little there. That way you can shake them down for years and years.
The Euros dont have any meaningful tech companies of their own. So they can shake ours down without much risk of retaliation.
But yeah. Like a mafia shakedown, these fines are just a cost of doing business. If the EU were actually trying to promote good policy, they'd fine the shit out of these companies, rather than take their lollipop money.

Reply to LPT: Pack a "Go" bag. by Chris_Moyn
I used to keep a drawstring bag of stuff at my office. Jogging shoes, a few slimjims, and a waterproof windbreaker. I think there was a flashlight, and a few other odd and ends too. I figured if worst came to worst, it would make a 28 mile walk home suck a little bit less.
I don’t bother with any prep now that I work from home. If the world goes sideways I’ll either die quickly or I’ll rob/murder/plunder my way to survival.

Meh. Fuck that.
If I have lingering minor illness, I’d just as soon spend the day working.
Save my sick days for nice days when I’m feeling good and want to play golf or something.

Reply to What's the best thing about iphone? by decoyj6g
I like carplay. I like how iphone works with AppleTV. I like ApplePay.
I also have an old ipod touch connected to a stereo rig in my office. I can use my iphone as a remote control for the ipod. This is an odd use case though.
I guess I like the ecosystem more than I like the phone. But the phone is a central component of the ecosystem.
As far as the phone itself is concerned, I could probably live just as happily with an Android. Android probably has a good equivalent to everything I listed above. But the iphone does everything I want it to do. They last for years and are supported seemingly forever.
My first smartphone was a Samsung S5 (i think). I didnt have it two years before OS couldnt be updated and apps got buggy. It wasn't a particularly well made phone either. I switched to iphone mostly because thats what my work issued. The iphone worked well, and I didn't want to carry two chargers. So I defected and haven't had a reason to consider switching back to Android.

The US had a ‘cash for clunkers’ program too. It was mostly to prop up the auto industry during the Great Recession, but also to get jalopies off the road too.
