I hope it’s possible and we’ll continue to see major progress this decade. I’ve seen some pessimists argue that we’re reaching limits as to what silicon can achieve vs. mammalian brain tissue, and I hope they’re wrong (as self driving is basically the gateway to any real AI takeover of the physical world).

If we can’t all reach Northern European levels of justice, prosperity, and equity then we might as well have a fun and interesting swan song. Hopefully we’re able to create an intelligent successor species or escape into the metaverse before the collapse.

There are significant numbers of electric vehicles on the roads, small clusters of autonomous cars/trucks and delivery robots in places like San Francisco, and increasing tech integration in cars versus even 2013.

So after a brief period of emerging market growth we’re going back to the dark old days of European dominance? Ugh…I just hope we don’t see Europeans arguing that they’re culturally superior and deserve to survive and lead the world once again.

That climate change is disproportionately affecting poor countries that only started emitting Co2 late in the game is such a profound injustice that it has destroyed any faith in a loving God. Especially if it's used with shoddy science to argue that Western/European-based countries are inherently superior: the definition of being born on third base and thinking you hit a triple.
Hopefully once Putin is gone we can convince the new Russian regime to make room in rural Siberia for climate migrants.

Bonobos are not particularly selfish although they do engage in some unnecessary predation, but I do think it’s amazing what humanity has been able to come up with and I still have some hope that we can improve the flawed natural universe to be a bit more cooperative.

Yeah, and unfortunately STDs are a much bigger deal among us than them (although that might be a numbers issue). There were years during the AIDS pandemic that more people died from making love than making war iirc.

Voluntary, consensual eugenics with the goal of closing gaps and creating a less tribal species would be really good if we could figure out how to implement it. Many if not most ideologies converge on something resembling fascism if taken to their extreme, though, with a loyalist inner circle and an oppressed “other.” Leftist ideologies aren’t immune.
