Not saying there still isn't a massive opioid problem in Manch Vegas, but the BBC mini-doc was published, I believe, in 2015. Manchester is, from an outsiders perspective, getting better (i.e. more private investment in housing and technology). It seems to me to be a smaller version of Dover from about 10 years ago. Dover definitely isn't Shangri La (sp?) but it's vastly improved owing to developers' investment. Some of these same developers are now eyeing Manchester as are others. I expect it to be much better in less than a decade. JMO.

Live in NH now and bet all the time online via DraftKings. DraftKings has the exclusive rights to provide sports gaming in the state. You just visit a casino that hosts sports gaming (I did it through The Brook in Seabrook) and show them your license and then you can do it on your phone/computer as long as you're in the state. Learned that last item when I was visiting my folks in VT and tried to make a bet.

When I lived and worked in Vermont, I had a bookie that would meet me at (not going to name the place but it was in downtown Burlington) every week or so. His vig was high (don't blame him, of course), so I'm happy to do it through DK now.

You're not going to stop sports gambling, sorry, you're just not. Why not profit off it?

I have pretty bad IBS so when I have to go, I have to go NOW. Took my gf, now wife - surprising after this story, to a nice dinner in Georgetown (back when we both worked in DC) and on the way back to my apartment it hit me. I had to go immediately and thus parked the car and scurried into the bushes to do so. This was at, like, 8 at night. And right in front of the US Department of Energy. It wasn't quick, either. I was hunkered down for probably 20 minutes. Finished my biz and left. Tried to play it cool with the girl and she was like, "You know there's cameras everywhere." Had to laugh thinking of security watching that scene in the morning.

Oh well. Gump was right. Shit happens.

There sure is. Go ask Foss Manufacturing, any hospital, Sig Sauer, Harmony Homes, etc., etc., etc. These aren't $15 p/h jobs. There's those, too, but it's systemic. Here, this'll help:

https://www.nhpr.org/nh-news/2022-07-20/n-h-jobless-rate-drops-to-a-new-low-as-worker-shortage-persists

Timely info.

Reply to WTF Vermont by matapuwili

Let me help you here. You say:

"I'm from Ohio where we have real shoulders on the roads."

That's because Vermont has a thing called mountains. You say you didn't pull over right away, so already the cop is pissed. If you had Ohio plates and a local-yokel cop saw that, and had the opportunity to pull you over for speeding, he might have wanted to check you out and see if you 'looked' like you might have drugs. Big bust for a guy like that.

Two things.

#1 Research the Free State Project before calling yourself a libertarian. The movement here is erratic and useless. I think you just want to live in a "free-er" state, which New Hampshire absolutely is. So, if you can pull it off, good on ya.

#2 We have a massive workforce crisis in this state, so getting a job shouldn't be as difficult as others are espousing. H1B is the way. Success all depends on what field you aspire to. What are you currently studying? Once we know that we may be able to make specific suggestions.
