3D printed homes are the answer. To their credit, Maine is dabbling with this through Dr. Dagher at UMO. The state should subsidize developers to make large communities of small-ish homes and only sell them to income-qualified folks. To be clear: The state says, "Okay Mr. Developer. You buy the land and we'll kick in X,Y,Z and you can only sell homes (by covenant in perpetuity on each property - in the deed so one can buy and flip at market rate) to buyers that can prove income of 80% area median income (AMI) or less." These are not Section-8 folks. The state alrady has programs for that. These are your firefighters, nurses, cooks. Mostly young, first-time home buyers.

I've often maintained that if teaching in public schools was among the highest paid vocations in America it would change our society for the better. Sadly, it is not. Both my dad and brother are teachers. Dad is now retired but was only able to do so by operating a side business, while teaching, for 47 years.

The way I was raised - as I'm sure many Vermonters were - if I did something to raise the teacher's ire, I was not only punished at school but at home as well. Nowadays, it seems parents side with their kids and blame the teacher for shortcomings and confront them and the school board as such. Thankless job but probably the most important job.

As such, OP I commend you.

I've read through this whole thread and it seems both sides have come up with scientific literature both for and against transitioning while a minor. I lean towards not letting this occur until one is an adult but admit I'm fully uneducated on the science. That said, why in hell can't they discuss it in schools, particularly if discussions are info only with open dialogue? Perhaps not as part of a curriculum as there is likely not enough educators who are qualified to do so, but discussing it as part of a health class "open conversation" to hear what students think might be useful. If nothing else, it could help lessen trans discrimination now and in the future. JMO.

Been a long time since I've been there but when I was, living in Old Town was only an option is you had no sense of smell. That fucking mill REEKED. And it if was foggy out, even worse. We didn't have a/c at the house we rented and one night in the summer - and thus had the windows open - the smell was so bad, I tied a tube sock around my head to cover my nose before going to sleep. Paper mills make rotten eggs smell like a rose bush.

Most towns have noise ordinances based on decibels and time of occurrence. And, for most towns, the earliest one can go above X decibel level is 7:00 AM. Town planners rarely want to deal with public complaints. Talk to a sympathetic City Councilor or Select Board member.

" But a request for a search warrant that was approved by a judge on Dec. 22 says the missing property included a Rolex wristwatch and other items seized by narcotics investigators and Burlington police on Nov. 22."

I'm unclear as to whether the search warrant was for the trooper's house. If it was, how does the lawyer explain the "other items"?
