No dude. The rescue and wardens were for some kid who twisted an ankle. That's what the guy running the ambulance said. There was a school group, too, that was having issues. One girl was wearing crocs. I couldn't believe it.

BTW, remember this?

I think they should get billed for the chopper, personally.

Pretty confident it's not permanent. We saw 'em Saturday, so we figure they probably did it for the weekend. Someone got hurt (not one of those guys) and we passed several wardens and rescue people going up to the lake portion, so if it was illegal or something, I'm pretty sure the wardens would do something about it. Doubt very highly it's illegal.

Really good article. It's some scary shit, though. I use trails all the time and every once in a while I'll see a tent. Mixed feelings on it because the only guy I knew that lived in a tent did so as he was down on his luck after a divorce. He went to work every day and, after a while, ended up finding an apartment. Pretty bad ass living in a tent in a NH winter. Other side of that coin is what this was - a bloodthirsty drifter with no regard for human life.

Dude, you're not even here yet and you're dissing ManchVegas??? Step off, bro. Manchester is like an ugly sister; we can make fun of her but she's off limits to outsiders.

Bomoseen General Store was amazing when I was growing up. I can still taste the stale gum that came with the baseball cards. New owners changed everything and renamed it Robo's Creemees and General Store. It is NOT a general store. It's a tourist trap that sells Bomoseen and Vermont tchotchkes. Bums me out every time I'm visiting.

THOP has been named best pizza in NH for, like, a decade. Every year. Couple of Greek Brothers from Manchester. They're incredibly personable, work tons even though they could delegate and remember almost every customer. The pizza is awesome but I think they get a lot of points for personality.

Grew up near there. Agree that they're good. Still siding with Gill's, though. The absolute best I ever had was at the long-scuttled Poultney Cash Market. But that's for the way-back machine.

Don't know how long you've been there but when I was a kid the Birdseye Diner was called Jim's. And John Rehlen didn't own the whole freakin' town.
