Which non profits are those? I always see people blame non profits but those groups are often the ones actually providing services and trying to help…. Sure there’s some shady non profits out there, but you could say that for literally any line of business.

I agree for the folks doing the direct clinical work. And not even hating on the high salaries for all the executive either. It’s just many folks point to the high pay of some of their staff as problematic. Again in the grand scheme of things I don’t think it’s a big deal at all

Yeah they do though. Executive staff there all 400k+. Again doesn’t change anything about the conversation, but they are critiqued often for high salaries.

I mean it’s baseless conspiracy, but they could be trying to burn tainted evidence.

Okay? Yes breaking ground takes outlandish salary for their top staff. How is that somehow a gotcha? You think if he took a lower salary this would all be solved?
ThreeLittlePuigs t1_j06xdhn wrote
More housing everywhere is always a part of the solution. Something this sub seems to understand for every population except for the homeless.

Well can’t expect people to actually be informed. They just need to say “activists and non profits” are to blame so they can go about their day.

I agree with you and would love any suggestions you have to do it differently. I think the idea is to make the decision be as close to “sub democracy” as possible.

There’s different folks that do counts. Coalition for the homeless does one, as does Downtown Gooddard. Census does one as well

Math isn’t nearly that clean. There’s actually just over 60,000 folks in shelters and not everyone “in a shelter” is accounted for or not a potential psych case. I wouldn’t be surprised if the number were talking about is closer to 3-4k for the most problematic folks, but that’s still way more than we have the resources / beds to house. As I mentioned there aren’t enough beds as is for even normal psych cases

The number in Miami Dade was 2000. Gotta think our number is higher. And we don’t have the beds for regular psych incidents, let alone an influx of more

Toxic poisonous land is not a good place to send folks. It’s also a lawsuit waiting to happen.
ThreeLittlePuigs t1_iyhjk8z wrote
Everyone saying “hurray they’re going to commit people” is missing the point. Sure we need to forcibly hospitalize people, but we also need a place to put them. The city has made 0 indication they are going to open up new crisis stabilization or safe haven beds, and the states only adding 50. We don’t have enough psych beds as is, so what are we going to do with all these folks? The city and state need to get serious and add the infrastructure to back up their policy.

I let your comment to OP stand too that predicated his comment to you. You “started it” so to speak, now I’m just asking you to stop. If he says something else that ends up in the queu I’ll make note to him as well. But you’re showing up all over insulting people right now so please just clean up your own behavior and if you’re upset by a comment report it and move on.

Sure but thrive had very little to do with traditional non profits. They worked with a couple that the mayor and his life were working with. Meanwhile the city has some of the oldest most storied non profits working on this issue in the world. Just seems shitty to rope in folks at places like the Catholic Worker with Thrive NYC
