If nothing else, hopefully the ability to slap charges on drivers after causing accidents will have some sort of deterrent effect. Wish we lived in a world where charges could be brought based on go pro footage alone but people would probably revolt if that started happening.

All of this is great, but given how lax traffic enforcement is in general in MA, it's really hard to imagine the 4 ft buffer rule actually being enforced except after an accident has already happened.

We could build more infrastructure if we didn’t have to have it approved by the non-Boston part of the state.

OTOH, Boston would probably be able to have nicer things if it could break away and become it’s own state.

The answer to every single one of these is: if it didn't cause an accident, you're almost certainly getting away with it.

Having been to most of the cape beaches I highly recommend Mayflower beach, especially at low tide it's epic in a way that the others aren't.

Agreed. There'd probably be some practical issues trying to separate one or more lines from the rest of the system during the overnight hours anyhow.

Hotter take: passengers arriving at Logan should always have a rail option for getting into the city; blue line should be 24/7 or nearly so.

Are you sure it's at the driver's house and not at some 3rd party?

People are weird. You'd think they'd want to clear up that situation fast -- risking their ability to drive for Lyft doesn't seem worth it for a phone that IIRC can be flagged to brick itself remotely if marked stolen. I can see if the driver was stupid and gave it to a friend to sell before thinking it through, they might be in a bit of a pickle and not willing to pick up the phone.

And then when the median baby boomer has died of old age in a couple of decades, the younger generations won't have built as much wealth and won't be able to compete with corporations attempting to shift the country from individual homeownership to renting.

No trials, no experiments, just do it. The infrastructure won't ever generate the demand if the infrastructure is going to turn into a pumpkin in 2 years.

Elderly lady next door to me is probably permanently in “rehab”, can’t make it up a flight of stairs, and probably isn’t ever gonna sell the triple decker she owns. Her next of kin will have to do it. I’m thinking there must be tons of situations like this across town where seniors who by all means should be moving out for health/accessibility reasons just won’t.

What's wrong? 50 years of broad failure to do the sort of anti-trust work that's required for markets to be healthy and not trend toward oligopoly and the market manipulation and rent-seeking that come with it.

Agreed that it's already nearly effectively decrim by itself, and that it ought to be officially legalized for possession. Beyond that, I'm on the fence. Worried about Joe asshole coming off the plane and eating a whole 8th and winding up either in the Charles or the ER, and triggering a backlash. Like maybe for retail sales there needs to be a waiting period and/or a little presentation you need to sit through and answer a quiz about.
