Whats funny is a lot of state parks are free. But the super popular ones are paid to control crowds and fund themselves.

California actually checks smog tho. Vt just sees if the check engine is on or not

You are getting downvoted but you arw right. The rust eats cars really fast here. The average person cant be trusted to not let their brake calipers wear into the disks and kill the entire system. I dont want to share the roads with dumbshits on bald tires and no brakes.
Twombls t1_irkltdn wrote
Playing Devil's advocate here but rust fucks cars so quickly here that inspections are needed. I would not trust the average person to ensure their car isn't a bald tire brakeless 2 ton metal death trap that is going to murder me at 70mph. This is coming from someone that has driven a ton of uninspected shitboxes here.
Itt: dumbasses who want to drive a car but not pay for maintenance. Vermont is fucking lax on this shit compared to like Canada and western Europe. Or even like new york or Massachusetts or California. Like come on. All of the examples of things I see cars failing for in this thread are rust related.

Yeah solar actually works pretty well. And you can have standby power plants that operate on natural gas in case of emergency.

We have lots of open unused fields that are perfect for solar arrays. Combined with power storage solar is actually pretty good in vt.

The power you actually receive is still the same power from the same mix of sources. It just changes who your main provider pays for the power you buy.

Kind of, its who your main provider essentially pays for the electricity you "buy" from them. Its not like they physically route different cables to your house on a separate grid when you buy power from a different source. Under the retail choice energy market stuff its all really weird and theoretical. All the providers are doing really is buying and selling the electricity like stocks.
No matter who you chose you are still getting the same power as your neighbors.
The whole renewable energy choice thing is really just greenwashing they use to sell deregulation to people. In reality it has little to no actual effect on the power you receive. Unless of course everyone chose the renewable energy provider. But if everyone is collectively choosing the renewable energy you might as well have a town commission that does it for you as a full time job. And is able to negotiate better rates. 🤔 hmm I think I just invented public utilities.

This is privatized deregulation though. Public utilities are much simpler to buy power than this. This model of energy selling is basically the libritarian wet dream. All the electricity comes from the same grid. But you get to choose which scalper you get to buy from that treats it like a stock market casino!

The thing is. The industry keeps moving to "retail choice" deregulation like this. People come in and sell deregulation as "good for the consumers". Its really not though.
