Incredibly. And now we're back to a trickle of rain, all in less than five minutes!

I finished a book about the Renaissance recently and it gave me a taste of just how little I know about the era and its most prominent figures. I'm curious if there's a contemporary book, maybe a bit in the vein of Sebag-Montefiore's Titans of History, that gives a short rundown/biography of some of the major figures of the time period, particularly in Rome?

Hey, Vonnegut’s a very quotable guy, I just figured he had a quote floating around I haven’t seen before!

This is an awful idea that completely defeats the purpose of a public library. Libraries exist to provide access to books and other forms of knowledge for people who otherwise might not have that access. By taking that away, you also take away what is historically an important means of social mobility for many people who are underprivileged.

I'm partial to Asimov's quote myself:
>“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge’.”

And the rest, as they say, is history; where would we be without pizza?

I'm going to have to reread it, to be honest. I guess if this copy ever arrives, I'll have a good excuse to do so! I remember it being good, but a little convoluted and feeling like I missed something. And yeah, if I hadn't ordered it so long ago, I definitely wouldn't do so today, that's way more than I'd be willing to spend now

That's my understanding, at least, yeah.
I can see both points you're making. I think the message requesting address confirmation should've at least been emailed out to everyone on their list, because I think a lot of people who ordered at the start have forgotten altogether or just written it off as a lost cause and don't bother to check the site anymore.
And there definitely are a lot of logistical concerns, no question, but at the end of the day it's kinda a self-inflicted wound or at best a case of the publisher having bitten off more than they could chew without realizing just how large the project would end up being.

Just the regular Trade edition, though I went through the site/Paypal way back, not the more recent Deep Vellum I don't believe
