Yes, I have a kid. They still teach all of that. You are not taking into account the huge capacity that the brain has for learning. People have been using tools to remind them of appointments and making lists for centuries. Maybe you just need to factor in that there have always been smarter and dumber people and there always will be. We are not a collective entity all evolving at once. To use your own example, the fish in your story lived in a cave, that was why they evolved that way, not all fish live in caves, and not all people are limited by technology but use it on top of their already stimulating lives.

A lot of people seem to doubt the ability of AI, but I think you are absolutely on to something. As this technology develops there’s no reason any publishing or production company couldn’t start manufacturing “art” around AI “personalities”. Music, movies, art in general has always been a double edged sword, the money people needed the talented people to actually make the product. But the money people would gladly cut the talent out of the picture and reap pure profits without having to share. It will be interesting to see if any new laws are created in response to this, maybe some kind of “source law”, but I’m sure there will be “legal work arounds” as well. The future will definitely be interesting if AI is going to continually absorb and regurgitate “talented works” in any sort of reputable and “respected” way.

I’m with ya. What could anyone do about it. So, people discover not only does their life suck but it’s not even real and then what? They go fucking insane? They kill themselves? What is the solution to this discovery, figure out a way to pull the plug? People want to think that they’re Neo and this is the Matrix, but all they’re going to find out is that they’re helpless to do anything at all.
