I haven't eaten at Junction (Essex Resort - they grow some of their produce and such, but they source locally for the rest), but I know they have a private dining room. I have eaten at Tavern, who also source locally, many times as it was convenient to my mom's Alzheimer's community. Tavern also has private dining in the Timber Room, but I don't know the capacity. The website for Junction says 10 people though. You could ask the Essex Resort if they can do a larger group.

There is one supposedly coming back to St. Albans and I don't understand why. We had one. It tanked and shut down. The city already has Dominos, Pizza Hut, Pie in the Sky, Mimmo's, the return of whatever they're calling One Federal now, Tim's Place, Twiggs, and Mill River for pizza or flatbreads, (I think that's all of them) the last thing that's needed is another pizza place.

I adore my backyard fox. She's done a fantastic job at getting rid of mice and chipmunks. She doesn't seem to go after the squirrels as much, but that could be because my squirrels are the size of cats and have no fear. I also have a resident opossum in the trees. Not sure if it's a boy or girl, but that little one is often around cleaning up apples that fell from trees or tomatoes that had fallen from the ground.

Thank you. It would have made her day to know someone was going to give them a try. I love them, but they are an acquired taste. She would have told you that they're best eaten after splashing a little malt vinegar over them. She had Alzheimer's and the way the ladies at Fish and Chip were always so warm and welcoming, even when time and time again she acted as if she'd never been there before... Brings tears to the eye.

I adore Fish and Chip. My mom was British and she preferred Union Jacks or Fish and Chip, but Fish and Chip were the only place offering mushy peas with your fish and chips, so they got the nod. Plus, the ladies there are top-notch.

It's been several years, but I remember haggling to get more scholarship funds for my kid when she went to Champlain. UVM ended up being more expensive, plus they insisted on making her live on campus, even though it was a half-hour commute. Even Champlain kept trying to push the on-campus life saying she'd miss out if she wasn't living in a dorm, but I fought back. It was absurd. It came down to Portland, Maine, or Champlain having equal tuition rates, and when I pointed out that she could easily leave the state, Champlain came up with extra grants.

Sometimes being willing to haggle pays off. Not that it should be that way, but it's what it takes.

Some of it is lack of housing and pay that's too low for the cost of living. When a nurse can't find a house, especially if she has kids, what's the point staying here? UVMMC is working on apartments for staff, but the pay also needs to increase. I was looking at one job (renal/dialysis) and they're starting training at $15 an hour and going to $17 once trained and licensed. It's not great pay when a small home (1,100 sq. ft) in my area sold (as-is condition and terms) for $350k and dialysis is something I think is mandatory. My own doctor left, so now I'm back to starting all over a waitlist again and with whoever they give me. I was lucky with a dentist as my mom passed away and I was taking her to all of her appointments and loved how well they did with Alzheimer's patients and asked her dentist if they could take me on. But, I know many others who are on waitlists for dental care.

My area is all in red with AT&T being the best. Verizon coverage has never been great in my neighborhood and they've told me it's because I'm too close to the lake and that water impacts cell signals. I've begged for years for change, and they kept telling me there was nothing they could do. My husband recently switched to Cricket (AT&T) and suddenly he has service, while not perfect, it's at least something. I think it's time for me to leave Verizon too.

I was just reading a book for review where the main character took over her mom's gift-wrapping shop. Year-round gift-wrapping services for individuals and corporations. The entire time, I was sitting here with a mound of presents that need wrapping and no interest in doing it.

There used to be several non-profits that would set up gift-wrapping stations for the holiday season. In the right location, I would gladly pay someone else to wrap my gifts, and I'd be even happier if the charity gift-wrapping services returned, but I searched and couldn't find anyone doing it this year.

People rave over Worthy Burger. We went mid-week on the way back from Maine once and it was okay but just okay. Not sure if it was an off day or if I'm just expecting more than most people.

I had a fantastic burger at Blue Paddle on my first visit. But my second visit wasn't as impressive, though I didn't have a burger so it might just be a spot for me to get burgers.

I've also had some tasty burgers at Twiggs, particularly the one with the bacon jam and apples. The only downfall is that sometimes the chef doesn't remove all of the apple seeds, so I've gotten in the habit of checking.

I did just have a very tasty burger up at Kraemer & Kin at the Alburgh golf course.

Two Heroes is constructing their brewpub. I'm eager to see how that will be as it will be very close for me.

I'll second what Kapntug said. A house next to me went on the market in August and the owner bought that house (about 1,200 sq feet) about six years earlier for $180k-ish and it sold a day later for $325k. Another home near me sold for $365k within a week, which was stunning given that it was being sold as-is and wasn't in great shape due to damage from untrained dogs and trash left behind. We're about 40 minutes from Burlington. If you want cheaper in the Burlington area, you're going to have a longer commute than 40 mins.

Way back in the early 1980s a movie was partially filmed in Jericho and several local students were extras in the fight scene. I don't know the name of the owners now, but the Allens owned the big brick house on the corner of Rt 15 and Lee River, near Joe's Snack Bar, and allowed filming inside the house. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gift_of_Love:_A_Christmas_Story

I love Red House! I am a fan of Catalyst and tried one of Hangry's donuts when they were selling them. I don't know if it was how they were stored or if they were filled while still too warm but my cream filled had no cream. It had all soaked into the donut. I've given up sugary, fried items since then so I wouldn't bother with the new location simply because of that. Instead, I'll walk over to Red House and get a loaf of rye or hit up their day-old bin and take home bread with my coffee instead. If I'm really in a mood to splurge, I'll have a croissant. They're amazing.
