You basically just said all dynamic drivers are the same because they function the same. Would you say that all internal combustion engines are the same? Is the 1.0L engine out of a Nissan Versa the same as a 5.2L V8 out of a Shelby GT500? They function the same, right? Same technology. Fuel goes in, sparks and explosion, and drives the piston.

I would recommend not spreading yourself thin on multiple mid/low-fi headphones and rather saving up for a single hifi headphone.

You have 4 headphones right there and realistically the airpods are going to get the most use. Could have just bought those and saved your money for something nicer.

There is no perfect sound and no perfect headphone. You can't quantify it.

The point where spending more money greatly diminishes returns is when you have zero headphone and then you have your cheapest headphone. Going from no headphone to $1 headphone is the biggest improvement possible and going from $1 headphone to $50 headphone is not nearly as great of a leap. That's why diminishing returns don't really make a whole lot of sense.

If you want to look at it like a graph where you plot audio quality against price, it's going to be a steep steep steep jump from $0 to the dirt cheapest headphones you can buy, and then still fairly steep but growing more gradual as you increase price. But again, this graph is imaginary because you cannot quantify sound quality.

I was in the trade in/trade out world for a while, and it's really not so bad. You buy them used, try them out, and sell them for pretty much what you paid for since there's no real depreciation once they're already used as long as you keep them in good condition.

Part of it is a lot of fun. You get to try all these new headphones and only really pay the shipping cost. But at the same time, it's a bit silly. Yeah, it's a hobby, but it's not one that many people understand and especially my girlfriend at the time and now wife would certainly look at me and say "another headphone??" and then I'd have to explain that I'm not alone, there are dozens of people like me online trading headphones back and forth and it's just so I can listen to new stuff. It's not costing me that much money to do this and it's just a hobby.

So I settled on the K7XX a back when they came out and I've been using them ever since. I've really enjoyed them.
