This. I’m not a gun guy but did grow up around them and went hunting when I was a kid. Things like knowing the target, not aiming a gun at anything you don’t intend to kill, treating every firearm as if it was loaded, etc. are some of the rules I thought were universal. Guess not anymore. State and federal are too afraid to even talk about the safety rules anymore because they know right wingers will cry “mah freedums.”

Raystown lake is very nice although yeah maybe not so much in January lol.
Side note, I’m not sure if this is 100% true but I heard once that when Teddy Roosevelt was president he was so impressed with the PA state park system he used it as the blueprint when they did the national parks.

I know everyone has their own wants and needs but if it were me I’d much prefer something up in the northern tier. Like the Tioga/Lycoming/Sullivan areas.

Being within 3-4 hours of Philly opens up more possibilities than I can even think of. There’s just so much to do around here especially for the outdoorsy types. Ricketts Glen state part is pretty high on my list but it is a pretty good hike. Might not be what you are looking for.

The mine you visited was the Pioneer Mine Tunnel in Ashland. I grew up not far from there and remember that part of the tour.

The article says they are starting at $14.21/hr. I live a county away from there and that’s about what they pay here as well. A few months ago the staffing was so low the state threatened to shut it down.

I hope you are successful it does sound like a long shot. When this Lenny fella moved to PA do you know the town or general area? I think that would be your best chance. PA is full of small and medium sized towns where everyone knows everyone. He and your dad sound like pretty cool dudes I’m sure people from that town would remember. Good luck.

See this is why everyone makes fun of MAGA and conservatives in general. If you had any clue about actually policy you would know the Biden admin border policy is basically identical to Trump. Just because he would go on Fox News and yell at the people you don’t like that doesn’t mean shit bro. There used to be a saying when I was a kid, that and a quarter get you a phone call.

I do. I don’t believe there is such a thing as an illegal human. That term is meant to be loaded and demeaning. I’m not the language police but I think you should try saying undocumented.

Dude this is the stupidest talking point. Starting in the early 20th century, there was a complete party re-alignment. In Lincoln’s time, the Republican Party was the “left” party and the Democrats were the “right” party. Literally anyone who’s “checked the facts” should know this. It’s not even controversial.

Futuristic infrastructure? Nah that’s not nearly as profitable for the donor class. We needed a trillion dollar fighter jet program instead.

People still say it where I’m from and still keep to the old regional dialect in general but mostly just the older generations. I don’t mind regional dialect type stuff but that one is so nails on a chalkboard. Y’all sounds even weirder to our ear and would stick out.

That’s what they were supposed to do here a few years back. I don’t follow local news all that well but they ended up just making a drug task force. Seems like too many egos got in the way.

I get that at some point you have to say “is this really worth it” but that’s part of the problem. Public services shouldn’t be exclusive to whether you live somewhere that makes enough money or not. The road were supposed to be addressed years ago with such a high gasoline tax which everyone pays. They spent it on the state police instead. Almost $500 million IIRC. That’s a lot of new road.

We do care and we appreciate the compliment thank you. I’ve been saying for years that this state is a little bit of a hidden gem even if you aren’t the outdoors type. I grew up in the Appalachian Mountain. It’s obviously not some economic powerhouse but it’s not super poor like the rest of Appalachia.
Btw the roads thing is a common complaint almost a meme at this point.

It’s very cynical but that’s the kind of stuff people want to read.
Side note, why the hell are the Columbia County people saying they are “pursuing death penalty.” There hasn’t been an execution here in almost 30 years. The state legislature really needs to get that off books already.

Going to the license center is a nightmare if you go on the day they do testings. They are far away in a lot of areas and many are only open 3 days a week.

If it wasn’t for the fact the shooter ran to help my guess would have been they knew it was a dog and shot it to make a point about scaring deer away.
