Not thrift stores but Reny’s and Marden’s are worth checking out as surplus resellers.

Sanctuary Dairy makes amazing ice cream. They also have donkeys and goats, be nice to them. The Claremont Ramunto’s is the best of the chain and has by far the best garlic knots. Claremont Dry Goods and Spices is run by very enthusiastic knowledgeable people.

Good to hear, you could try Bardo Farm in Croydon.

I used to work at a mixed animal vet clinic. We occasionally saw pigs. No one had done any research beyond “feed pigs your scraps, profit”. When the pigs got sick, the owners didn’t have any means or knowledge of restraint or sufficient husbandry. It causes further stress to the animals if they can’t be properly handled. Additionally it puts the humans at greater risk if you are not prepared to have the pigs restrained.

Please please please invest in proper handling equipment. Hurdling boards, snare, things that will let you maneuver and restrain pigs when needed.

Not sure if the Orozco murals are open to the public again but they are a stunning example of Mexican muralism at Dartmouth College. Also Saint-Gaudens National Historic site is a beautiful location with examples of the sculptor’s work.

Reply to How do you convince someone who utilizes NH's cold weather recreational activities (ice fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, etc.) to become more concerned about the shifting climate? by rabblebowser
My dad has worked with an organization who works with people that conventionally deny climate change. They work with people like farmers and ranchers; people who have a working connection to their environment. Their approach is to starrt by asking them if they have noticed changes over the past years/decades. Overwhelmingly they get “yes” as an answer with examples. Don’t try to argue it on a macro level, try individual experiences and see how much you can get them to extrapolate from there.

It’s so painful. I’ve been on slippery ground with bad shoes and seriously contemplated if it was worth getting up again.

Learn how to walk on ice. I’ve seen a lot of people fall because they don’t adjust their gait on ice. Smaller steps, keep your center of gravity over your feet, think penguins. Keep sunglasses nearby. There is a lot of low light this time of year which is hard on the eyes, especially when it reflects on water or snow.

It’s been a while since I’ve been, but the Front Room makes a good brunch.
