I’ll say this as respectfully as I can; that is creepy “nice guy” privilege.
It’s gross.
I also never painted her as innocent. Examine why you had to lie.

But you’re putting a lot of responsibility for how Tom would feel on her. She’s not responsible for his feelings; he is. And the thing is, she discovers she is capable of falling in love; it’s just not with him. And, while you certainly can feel bad for him, it’s nothing to hold her responsible for. Tom needs to do some self-examination and hold himself responsible, and it seems he is unable to.

Summer is very clear about everything. Even Gordon-Levitt says Tom is the villain (although that might be a harsh word) of the movie. Tom really isn’t able to move beyond the vision on his head of who Summer is…and it looks like he didn’t really learn anything at the end of the film.

Reply to If you ever loved Enders Game, or science fiction in general, check out some of Card's other series. by donjohndijon
Card is a trash person, but if you're the type who can separate the art and the artist, some of his early work is very good. I wouldn't bother reading anything from this century and none of his nonfiction (generally online stuff).

Dreamcatcher is one of my least favorite, but honestly I think King's worst is Roadwork.

People who say he can never seem to write a good ending clearly haven't read much King. He's certainly had some stinker endings, but to say he has almost never written a good one is just ridiculous.

King says it’s a novella. The book is Different Seasons. The novella wasn’t published on its own until about two decades after Different Seasons.

I know the novella much better than the movie, so I wasn’t sure about the movie.

In the novella it explains that because of everything Andy does for the warden and guards, he got special privileges and wasn’t ridden as hard as others.

Ralph Roberts is one of King’s best characters, and the most Everyman.
