Holy crap yeah. Reminds me of those shots of the Denver/SLC skylines with the mountains in the far distance. Super job OP!👏🏼👏🏼

I’m really feeling your second point there. It does get pretty lonely. Hard to go from a full day of socializing and stimulation at work, to absolutely nothing waiting for you when you get home.

Agree. This would solve the problem real quick. In fact, you could disincentivize ANYTHING by making the cost of doing said thing exorbitant. That has its benefits and downsides I suppose (see political suppression and purging of dissenters).

Yup. I can’t wait to take this picture again on an absolutely clear day. I want to align the edges of the frame exactly, so it would be a seamless swipe. Any day now, Mother Nature!

So cool, isn’t it? I experienced something similar in my office building - we’re kinda high up so when we looked out the window, we could see nothing but a sheet of white. Felt like our office was in a cloud. Loved it!

Beautiful, and with the great blue heron. I’m always amazed watching them fly by — they’re absolutely huge.

As a flipside to this, I could also see companies abandoning or downsizing office space and putting more of an emphasis on remoteness. But obviously those are fixed costs, and layoffs provide more flexibility. It’s also worth considering that remote work comprises many “luxury” positions (e.g., software engineer) so there might be pressure to retain that technically-skilled labor vs jobs that are more hands-on and require an in-person presence. Ultimately I don’t know.

Can confirm, I saw lots of bikers taking full advantage of the closed-down Memorial Drive. It was so inviting that I wished I could’ve joined them.

That’s fantastic. Another encouraging story was an adult chestnut found in a random stand of trees in Delaware. Quite wide bark, too. Hopefully in the next 40-50 years we have our beautiful trees back. It’s the least we can do, given it was humans’ global movement that brought the pathogen here.

One of the saddest stories out there. The trees used to number in the billions in North America.

Charon was the dude in Greek mythology that transported souls across the River Styx, right? And you had to pay him a coin in order for him to do that (according to legend). That's why ancient Greeks were sometimes buried with coins - so they’d have something to give him for their journey. That’s what I thought your username was referencing haha.

Maybe they’re just embarrassed they didn’t pay you any coins.

Have any of them ever made eye contact with you for an extended period? (Similar to a squirrel frozen on a tree?) Or do they immediately scamper away once they catch sight of you
