how is newport or jsq relevant?

idk man. i’ve lived in apartments my entire adult life, plenty of them adjacent to households cooking with curry on the reg. i have never had my walls or fabrics stained or acquire smells. maybe if the curry was being cooked IN my apartment. i’m not in charge of you, if you find this so unbearable that it’s making you want to move then 🤷‍♀️

do you live in the hallway? put a draft blocker under your front door and move on with your life, goddamn

edit: if it’s really permeating your apt get a good air purifier, could help. but this is a common thing and living in dense areas means you will sometimes smell other people’s food. you gotta get over it.

i mean, in a perfect world? yeah, we’d have a rail system throughout jc comparable to the subway. but i’m biased as i’m from new york and lived in queens for ten years before moving to jersey city and have always felt the public transit here falls very short compared to nyc. understand there are a lot of factors that go into it but i’m speaking from a place of pure idealism, even fantasy.

within jersey city usually depends - honestly i uber/lyft to save time. sometimes will take the bus if i know i have the time to do it but i hate having to build an unknown amount of commute time into whatever i’m doing. i’m usually going downtown for an appointment so i can’t be late and prefer uber/lyft for that reason (as opposed to bus which is unpredictable, as half the buses i can get are a&c and therefore not on the njt app bus tracker. i also find the tracker unreliable). otherwise i will drive myself in my own car, usually when running errands on weekends.

agree with the other poster. i had $60k worth of emergency surgery and a three day stay over the summer. billing has been nothing short of a shitshow. question everything they send you, read it carefully, read it again, have your shit buttoned up when you call them (take notes of who you spoke to on what day, keep good records of payments etc).

edited to add that asking for an itemized bill is the bare minimum of patient proactivity, you and everyone else who receives a large bill from any provider should absolutely be asking for one.

you’re welcome! if i hear of any rentals in my building i’ll let you know. i moved here two years ago and really like it. i saw in another comment you and your husband commute to nyc - we do too (my husband more than me) and it’s easy from where we are, right by lincoln park.

that’s ok. i don’t have great advice but i would say check out the west side. not far from JSQ but perhaps more apartments that are affordable, lowering your overall cost to move. i did a quick search of my area here and saw a bunch of sub-$2k apartments in two family/prewar buildings.

recommended highly. one of the doctors there performed a life saving emergency surgery on me and became my obgyn afterward. i’ve had a great experience with the office staff, wait times, and doctor’s care.

no, it’s probably the least transit friendly area of JC. quite far from the PATH which means you’ll rely heavily on local buses (has its pros and cons). it’s also, in some areas, plagued by gun violence. depending on what you want in a neighborhood it’s not my first choice when picking a place to live in jc.

in my area of jc i could see this going for $2600-$3k easily. and i don’t live downtown. so tack on at least another $1k for downtown.
