In 2023 if you still believe that is true, and you think cops should kill anyone, Iâve got nothing to say. Best of luck.

I donât mind firefighters with theirs as much. It still gives an ick but at least I know theyâre not killing people because they got scared and then celebrating how now one can touch them with a flag lol

It was literally banned from cops in LA - like the worst gang of them all. They know what it means.

I also really like Lincoln and North Smithfield.

You move into a place. They say heats included. A year later they raise the rent, heat is no longer included, and split utilities among the apartments based on occupancy. Why? Bc thereâs nothing explicitly saying they canât do that.
Rent jumps from $900 to $1500 (so they can ârenovateâ lol and then successfully charge that much) to people who donât know any better trying to save money by leaving Boston. Why again? Not because the landlords costs went up. Not because the people paying $900 were bad tenants, but because the landlord can.
Laundry machines were included in your rent, communal, but still, great, right? Wrong. They never work, they never will work, and your rent will not be reflecting that inconvenience. Why? Because there is nothing saying thatâs illegal either.
So you opt to move. Congrats! You get to lose your deposit (because they always take as much of that as they can, right?). And now you get to put a new deposit on another apartment, but that landlord is charging first, last (if your credit score is too low) and security. But wait⌠thatâs illegal in RI! Lol cry about it! No one cares.
These are just some of the things I have seen happen to my neighbors, and people I know within the last year or two. I truly do not know very many people. Tenants in this state get absolutely railed.

I have been writing to elected officials about the predatory landlords out here. They have a âif you donât like it, fuckin moveâ mentality. And theyâre right; someone will always fill the spot bc thereâs simply not enough housing.
The people who think that this is a tenant friendly state have never lived outside of RI. I truly wish you the best!

lol @ people saying RI tenants have the laws on their side. The law basically is on your side if the place is an uninhabitable shithole, and even then there's really no repercussions that go the landlord's way. Otherwise, you have to deal, and try to recoup anything in court after the fact.
I do not know if kitchen appliances are considered essential. If it is, you may be able to straight up break the lease, or rent somewhere else (I.E., hotel) while the stove is being replaced, and deduct it from your rent owed (this will suck, as he will most likely try to evict you by going that route - not saying he will be successful). If it is not essential, they give you a whopping $125 limit on doing the repairs yourself, after informing the landlord you are going to do so, and waiting 20 days for the landlord to get around to it.
You can go to RILS.ORG and call to see if you quality for legal help - if you don't, which you won't because the benchmark is so insanely low, they will still offer a free 30 minute consultation with an attorney affiliated with their program.
Edit: itâs considered not a âlandlord friendlyâ state because itâs hard to evict people here lol đ
canibringmydog t1_j6894j4 wrote
Depends on what youâre looking for! Is there something specific that is drawing you to RI? I love it here but it has gotten really expensive (like a lot of other places).

I use Lifestance for Med Management, idk about what insurances they take. Itâs all telehealth except an annual appt for vitals. They offer therapy as well but there are fewer licensed therapists in RI there, so I am not sure if they have any openings for therapy. Iâd for sure check them out for med management tho.
Edit: I found them they my insurance portal - Cigna.

We pay $1500 for an apartment, nothing included. I would be surprised if you could find a house for less than 2k rent. I have heard some wicked horror stories of landlords out here. There are very few renters protections, and what seems to be few repercussions for landlords. I would just familiarize yourself with the Rhode Island landlord tenant handbook; hope for the best, expect the worse. Best of luck!

I donât know why anyone is downvoting this. I think people faking service animals should be a crime but emotional support animals? All day. They basically only make it so landlords have to accept your pet. Itâs a shame people abused it so much for airline travel; that was an inconvenience to a lot of people. But fuck landlords.

Interesting you say that as I have had a very different experience. They have been very honest with me, no surprise billing, no excessive appointments, visits, or medications - we have seen them for years now. We even moved to the top of Rhode Island and happily make the commute down.
I did not shop around because I really love and trust Dr. Young with my pets. Her recommendation absolutely means a lot to me. I cannot speak on price bc I would have paid more for peace of mind.
None of the charges were a surprise, none of the procedures were unnecessary. If you, as an adult go to get a tooth pulled, they have the same procedures.

This just happened to me! I go to West Shore Animal Clinic. It DID cost and arm and a leg tho. The tooth extraction itself was only $110. Everything else like the cleaning, X-rays, anesthesia and everything else totaled up to a whopping $1050.
We had to wait some time for the appt (not sure if there is still a wait). His breath started getting stinky so they put him on an antibiotic while we waited. He did end up having an infection at the root, but we got the tooth out before it became a problem.
I have to recommend getting pet insurance in the future. It does go up as the dog ages but it has been worth it. (It doesnât exist for preexisting conditions so if youâve seen a vet over this is wonât be covered). But of the $1050 this trip cost, we were reimbursed $725 of it.
Best of luck to you and your bb!

Where I live, utilities are split between units based on occupancy and square footage. Your landlord may have an equation where he pays X% of the bill. We also have oil, gas and electric. The gas heats the water. We donât pay for water, but we do pay for the gas. The way utilities were explained to me is the landlord doesnât have to pay for heat or hot water, they just have to make it available.
The splitting utilities is called RUBs, ratio utility billing system and itâs only legal bc itâs not explicitly illegal. Itâs stupid, and I personally hate it.

I canât speak on your specific location but I have lived in a lot of dodgy areas in my life (outside of New England) - my neighbors in these locations were so kind, so welcoming and looked out for each other. Itâs so strange the mentality out here that in poorer neighborhoods everyone is out to get you. Like crime exists in cities, wherever you are.
