Great neighborhood. I live about 7-8 blocks from UMB. You will enjoy the city. So much to do. Music, exercise, sports, close to DC/Philly. Great food and people. Come on down!!!!

I keep forgetting about Greyhound. Also, doesn't Amtrak go all night as well or did that change?

Amtrak is perfect especially if you live in the city. I go up once in a while and I walk to the train station. Brings you right into Penn Station. Such an easy trip.

I wonder if they still have monthly passes to NY. It may be a few hundred dollars but if you go enough it would be worth it.

Trying to get from Mt. Vernon to either I-95 or Locust Point is faster if I crawl on my belly vs. driving. If the study just gets rid of that one light on Key Highway near The Rusty Scupper it will be 1000% worth it!!!!

Let me tell you.....the traffic lights are so fucked that I'm ok with money being spent to fix this.

So the ethical question that everyone should ask themselves is was it worth it? I think a lot of people would say yes. Others would say that is targeted certain groups (which may or may not be true...I honestly don't know). What I do know is that people who live in cities (and I'm one of them living here right in the middle of Baltimore City) is that I want crime to be lowered. "Asking nicely" for people not to commit crimes hasn't seemed to have worked.

NYC did things that worked but some would say went over the line. Stop and frisk for example. Now, you need too much money to live in NYC (well, in Manhattan anyway) so crime is much lower. But back in the 70s-80s-early 90s it was pretty bad.

That was something they did recently for like the 25th anniversary or something. It was TSU when I went there as well.

Charles Village works as well but there is a little bit of sketchy around it. It is a lot like Chicago. My daughter goes to school there and loved the town as it reminded her of here.

So Hampden is great. It's kind of like the "beatnik" part of town but in a good way. Lots of diverse people there. Very affordable. "The Avenue" is famous for their food/bars. It is very close to Hopkins Campus (vs. Hopkins Hospital which you do not want to live near). Very good area and you really can't go wrong there.

The only issue is that it is up against Remington which is still a neighborhood in transition. That is the one thing about Baltimore in that one block can be really good but 2 blocks away is sketchy. Even where I live, 5-6 blocks east of me and I'm not walking there at night........But as like most cities, just be aware and you will be fine. Specifically, as long as you aren't buying/selling heroin, you will be ok.

If you like live music, Fells Point has 7-8 places on the same block with bands playing all day Saturday/Sunday. It's a lot of fun. Fed Hill is usually for the <30 crowd. Fells Point is >30. Canton is a bit of a mix. Locust Point is a little more for newly married couples/families with small kids before they move to the county for public schools.

Lived in Baltimore for 25+ years. Some possibilities:

• Mt. Vernon. I'm there now. Very walkable to almost everywhere. BTW, Baltimore is very good for biking.
• Locust Point. More expensive but great neighborhood and super safe.
• Fells Point. Where most of the bars are. Parking sucks but walkable.
• Canton. Safe and lots of stuff around there (about a mile east of Fells Point).
• Federal Hill. Near the inner harbor. Lots of things to do there and walkable.
• Hamden. Kitchy area of the city. Lots to do around there.
• Pigtown. Not ready yet. Still in transition. Close to the casino.

Baltimore is a really fun town and you should love it.

(edit......Canton is east of Fells Point).

You can get a reach around anytime. Get the bartender Rob a shot and he will tell you which girls are the most fun.

There is one place to go....the one next to the Hustler Club where you walk downstairs. They have half descent girls in the afternoon.

The abandoned house issue is actually close to the #1 problem with the city.
