Generally, wherever he is now will be issuing a death certificate, which may take some time (I think it took about three weeks for my dad and two weeks for my mom). When the death certificate is issued, his status is updated with social security as well. With my mom, she received an SS payment the day after she passed and a month later, the money was taken back (auto-deposited then auto-debited so we didn't manually do anything, just made sure the money was there so it could be returned)

I would speak to the funeral director or hospital where his body is because in my experience, you don't have to specifically reach out to SS because the whole process moves together.

Like any other urban area- keep your wits about you. I live in McGinley Square and walk through Journal Sq at night multiple times a week (and I'm a woman). It's no different than when I lived in Brooklyn- don't be flashy, don't be buried in your phone, watch where you're going, and you'll be fine.

We keep our bikes in our basement. I think lots of the newer buildings have their own dedicated bike storage too- my cousin owns a condo in JC and that’s where she keeps hers. Neither of us live downtown.

FitHit on 27th street does frequent free (women's) self defense seminars (usually on Sundays at 12). I've taken their classes before and it makes me feel more capable of defending myself if I needed to.

I'm so sorry for all of your experiences, this sounds terrifying :(

What kind of dog do you have? It's odd to me that people keep targeting your dog, hopefully puppy will still be well-socialized!
