I have to wonder how many actually drive. My stepdad held a valid license, but we definitely didn’t let him behind a wheel.

In OP’s case, it belongs to his 70 year old aunt, who is likely retired on a fixed income and can’t afford a $40k new car. In the US, there are very few places were you can easily get along without a car, so if you have a low income, you drive what you can afford. My mom drives a 2005 Toyota that she’ll probably drive for the next 10-15 years.

Reply to Love my Olakais. Bought these in 2015 and have worn them every day since. Despite the holes they are incredibly comfortable. I decided to upgrade to Leather. by Accomplished_Alarm_1
I have plantar fasciitis, and Olukai ohanas are the best shoes I’ve ever found for my feet. I only get 3-4 summers out of them, though, before I notice my foot pain starting to increase again.

Reply to comment by laconicflow in Completely hooked by the writing style and research into "the Five" by Hallie Rubenhold. "There are two version of the events of 1887. One is very well known, the other is not." The five are the victims of Jack the Ripper and had always been labelled prostitutes, but they were not. by LJRGUserName
It makes a difference because the label prostitute is still used as a shorthand that a woman wasn’t a valuable human being. It would make me wonder about the political agenda behind the reporting of the murders (I haven’t read the book, it’s going on my list now).

Yep, that was the hypothermia episode. You might even have been in my class, because I remember lots of snickering.

I’m not a big fan of their chef’s knife (that metal handle is not comfortable), but their tomato knives are the best ever. Mine’s going on 25 years old now.
Rada’s vegetable peelers are also the best ever, and mine’s also been in heavy use for over twenty years. They’re crazy cheap for how long g they last.
