I would say when the expectations are low anything becomes optimism. I rather be positively surprised than constantly disappointed

That's more reflective thinking than expecting of that you're going to die. The idea is not to dwell or having overly ambitious goals but to be happy over a more positive outcome.

Nah the solution to a happy life is to always expect the worst and be positively surprised when it turns out better. No reflection just expectation.
