A small layer of PE foam would work fine underneath.

They key next to it! The airport shuttle PCB doesn’t have like a dedicated pin out (if I’m using the right term) for the clicky part of the encoder so it does what the key next to it does. So when you click the encoder it works as a backspace key (which I’d rather it be mute, but oh well).

Honestly I was into split space and then I realized you can just hold down the big one and get that deep spacebar sound. My other layers are mapped to the right shift key.
