The highest quality DACs are only around $10 in 1k units. With components+testing+profit, a very high-end unit like JDS Element is only $450.
What does it offer? Pitch-black background, neutral sound and sufficient power for any headphone.
A high quality DAC is transparent and doesn't colour the sound.

Unless your source is a cassette or LP, there is a DAC involved some where in the audio chain.

Reply to comment by blorg in Bluetooth Sound Quality, me trying to explore what is the difference between different bluetooth codecs, which sounds best, and why, along with how to get the most stable connection possible by AudiophileHeaven
I am very well aware of this article from sound guys.
BTW, I was talking about encoders while you are talking about difference in configuration. The Android encoder was developed by Fraunhofer Institute, the very people who invented MP3 & AAC, but the manufacturer can set the bandwidth of the encoder. If the phone is rooted, we could change the bandwidth.
Anyways, the cutoff doesn't matter much. There is very little energy in music beyond 13kHz except for cymbal crashes.

> AAC codec and AAC bluetooth are two separate things
You couldn't be more wrong. The bit stream of AAC is very clearly documented and 2 different decoders should produce the same bit stream after decoding.
Any difference that exists is in encoding. There were differences 15 years ago when iOS encoder was superior, but now both Android and iOS are on par.

They are not worth the money as their ANC is garbage though their sound quality is on target.

It is based on truth. This AptX vs Others test shows that standard AptX and SBC @ 328 kbps have only a 0.6 dB difference in distortion. AptX HD is better, but it is using 529 kbps. SBC or SBC XQ at that bit rate would perform similarly.
> AAC for instance is better than Aptx?
Absolutely. Any day of the week. The only codec that can beat AAC is Opus. There is extensive scientific literature on audio codecs. People have spent their entire career on audio codecs and their day job is evaluating the codecs both subjectively and objectively.
AAC & Opus are superior to every other lossy codec out there.

It is already here. Bluetooth 5.2+ supports broadcasting and delays less than 50ms(even 25ms I think is possible). Support is coming to Android 13 onwards. Lossless is not relevant as psychoacoustics has proven that transparency is achieved at 192kbps+ for AAC,Opus, etc.

Read properly. I said 6+3+41 IEMs bought over a period of 25 years. It is not unusual.

No need to spend so much for TWS. Some good quality ones are only $50 USD and they last 2 years or so.
I have spent close to $3000 on my wired headphones, but not using them despite their superior SQ.😬

I agree. Even $75 DAC from FiiO or iBasso is good enough and you don't need anything more.
I was answering the, "What does it offer?" In general, higher quality DACs offer extremely low distortion even at low digital volume levels while cheaper DACs measure very well at 0dBFS, but degrade at -30 or -40 dBFS.
