We've lived in Fox Point for almost 8 years. Personally have had no issues with safety or break-ins, though I know of many others who have suffered from break-ins (usually due to leaving AC units in first floor windows.) Keeping windows closed and locked while away or over night is a must anywhere in the city. We walk to downtown from Fox Point almost every day, at all times of day and night.

3 best walks on the east side, originating from Fox Point neighborhood.
- Walk all the way up Benefit St, head up Olney St a couple blocks, then head back down on Prospect St. (Variations include ending up on Congdon St for a few blocks so you can take in the views from Prospect Park.)
- Walk around the Dexter Asylum wall - head east on Angell St, left on Arlington Ave, left on Lloyd Ave, left on Hope St. Make it longer by repeating, or by heading further north to encompass the Moses Brown campus.
- Tough to skip India Point Park, but I'm going with Elmgrove Avenue for #3. Walk north all the way to the end of Elmgrove Avenue, turn around and walk back. (Avoid the crowds on Blackstone Blvd!) Bonus points if you stop by Swan Point Cemetery at the end of Elmgrove before turning around.)

Reply to Homestead Tax Exemption by [deleted]
Yes, still a thing in Providence. When you buy a home you send in documents proving you live there - to start getting the homestead tax exemption. I had to show proof again about a year or two ago, not sure if everyone did it at the same time or if there's an "every five year" rule to re-prove you still live there. If the owner moved out, I'm sure they can keep claiming the exemption until the city figures it out - if they're smart about it.

Do this for free parking! You can walk anywhere you need to get from there.

There are some sacred harp singing groups on the east side, not sure if they have a full time location post-pandemic but they coordinate via an email list. DM me if interested and I can put you in touch. (Super low key and super easy to participate.)

Looks a bit like work done by William Schaff - an artist located in Warren, RI. Check him out and let me know if you think it was his work.

Buy in RI and when you get sick of the commute you can work locally and love life!

You’re right about the proximity of neighbors, and nothing you can really do about that.
For AC it’s much better to have the permanent split unit AC system. It’s expensive to install, but worth it in the long term. You obviously you need to be a homeowner or have an amazing landlord to make this kind of investment, otherwise I don’t know what you could do.
