I just went to Gateway Grill and it was much more expensive than comparables I can think of. Eating the leftovers as I type. Was not impressed.

I can’t get pass the paywall but the story should be here. The line I could see says 2013 … but I definitely went there in 2014/15 or maybe my brain can’t remember the timeline

Throw back to when it was that awesome ice cream place that was oddly shut down for giving out loans? The mix-ins were crazy! The vibe was much cooler too.

Noodlehead has a more expensive vibe but is pretty cheap. I think their meals are under $10 if I remember right. Cash only, they have an ATM.

Are you coming from a rural area of Florida? I feel like statistics would show that Florida cities are more diverse than PGH, but I’m not looking up the stats on that right now. Of course, pearly gated communities won’t reflect that as much - but with your price range Im guessing you weren’t living in those communities
ETA: yeah, PA as a whole is 10% more “white” than FL. Not sure we are the bastion of diversity you think we are.

“Crackville” is a pretty solid indicator that you meant that you don’t want to live near Black populations due to historical stereotyping. You could have easily said “best inexpensive apartments that are in a safe area.”
labgrownfriend t1_ixnhv9o wrote
Coming in with that attitude is a bit abrasive and rude. If you need public transit, your best option in that price range is on the T or S Busway (south hills). Likely off of route 51. We all want to live in safe neighborhoods, but calling certain areas “crackville” is despicable

Depends completely on speciality you’re interested in. If it’s just general, from the patient perspective, Shadyside is great.

Am I the only yinzer that actually dislikes seeing news like this? Idk, I just never wanted to live in a “touristy” area and hope it never becomes one. Also, genuinely curious - what do people typically do on a weekend trip here? I tell friends that visit to steer clear of Pamela’s and Primanti’s unless they’re here for a month or more. Try the really great places before the eh staples.

I definitely have “shooed away” animals with a wave of the arms or the leg in their direction, but would never actually physically kick one.

I know you prefer AHN and S Hills, but if you’re young and looking for a hysterectomy - the folks at UPMC Magee will give you one. I was terrified to ask due to my age and lack of offspring, and just dipped my toe in saying “can you put in my chart I’d like a hysterectomy by age 30?” And the NP said she could get me one 4 months from my appointment if I wanted it.

I was driving I-80 last weekend and mile marker 179-181 is stunning. The geology was cut away to make the highway, so it’s man made, but beautiful. Reminded me of one of the highways to get to Yosemite.
Going from West to East was nicer than East to West. I would love to see photos if anyone has any. I was driving alone so I couldn’t snap a picture.
