I don’t have a link but I think the group within google groups is called west side parents (not west end parents).

The only real equivalents here to Somerville are Fox Point and the “West Side” (between Cranston Street and just north of Broadway), full stop. They are bikeable to downtown, walkable, have things going on but are residential and neighborhood feeling. Everywhere else feels more suburban or less vibrant.

West End is actually a great place to be a new parent—so many young families. Dexter Field is hit or miss depending on time of day and weather. Different people come regularly on mornings, evenings, and mid-mornings on weekends. Keep at it and try different times.
Also join the “west side parents” list serv which I believe is on google groups. Aside from being a great resource you could send an email about meeting up.
Finally, starting in the spring, the farmers market on Thursday nights at Dexter field usually has some parents. As does moniker brewery.
I wish providence hibernated less in the winter. It’s makes an already difficult season worse!

Now that South Water bike lane has been open for a year and clearly hasn’t harmed her business, I wonder if she had the humility to change her mind. She responds to emails. Someone should kindly see.
Then again, maybe her business is down since last year simply because the food sucks and the concept is no longer a novelty.

Don’t bother writing to the jewelry district. It’s just Sharon Steele’s personal fiefdom and she’s not interested in facts or the concerns of other people. Her views, and by extension the JDA’s, are just based on arbitrary feelings that she has from her own weird life experiences.

I ride on the sidewalk because the streets are too dangerous. It’s time for us to finish this great streets project.

Go onto purple air.com. It regularly passes 100. Not hazardous “wrong term” but poor air quality.

Agreed but the petroleum port seems like the delta and there’s not much written about it for fox point, more for Washington park.

I mean I haven’t seen anything online about problematic air quality in fox point and barely anything about it in Providence. It constantly smells like gas fumes in the neighborhood and it’s not because of 195–I’ve lived near other highways before without encountering this issue.

Also: he single handedly seems to have killed the Kennedy plaza pavilion project where a world class architect (Merge) was going to design a space for the dune brothers people on Kennedy plaza using federal money! Smiley killed it (“we aren’t doing anything in Kennedy plaza until Superman is finished”—dumb idea) because Paolino was so against it. Paolino doesn’t realize how much that would have helped his buildings’ value there by bringing more people to Kennedy plaza, because he’s a fool.

Truth. He doesn’t get that bike lanes and the scooters actually make the city more desirable for young talent and start-up businesses and help his property values. But how on earth DOESN’T he get that? Kendall Square is one hour north. NYC is a short train ride away. Both have gone full blast with pedestrian infrastructure and have the most expensive real estate in the world…

I’m just lamenting that he’s a power broker here. Great he lived in Malta in the 90’s. His views on cities in the year 2023 make him look petty, out of touch, and willfully ignorant. You’re right that smiley needs to listen to him, but hopefully Smiley has the wisdom to take what Paolino says with a grain of salt.

Joe Paolino is poison. He’s so ridiculously out of touch with basic, best-practice, urban planning and yet he is constantly barking at people, and with influence. He needs to go on a sabbatical, visit other successful cities, shit—do a fellowship somewhere, and learn a thing or two. This is not 1991 and we don’t live in Dallas.
