I of course don’t know when the package ripped but I guess my only concern is if it sat like that in the warehouse for awhile, could that be a problem as far as bugs/moisture/etc. might be concerned or should it not make any real difference since the zippered bags they come in aren’t exactly airtight anyways?

I don't see it as hiding from reality. I see it as accepting reality. I don't see optimism and realism as mutually exclusive concepts.
Easy for me to say having not endured a fraction of the percentage of hardship that some have, but so far I think I've done pretty well in this regard.

This is exactly what a pessimist would say and that's why you won't live past 65.

>even when faced with stressful situations like a major medical diagnosis.
is that not somewhat at odds with this statement?

Haha no I haven’t taken it out yet; I took pause when I opened the box and saw it like this because I was concerned that perhaps it might’ve been exposed to something bad while sitting around the warehouse in this condition (like bugs, etc.) But maybe it tore in shipping and maybe even if it’s been torn for awhile in the warehouse like this it’s no big deal if it looks ok
