Sounds like you have really thought about how to set your kiddo up for success! Great job!

I mention the dishwasher because in the 80s my aunt had one of those dishwasher that was moveable and you had to hook up to the sink - on more than one occasion it would leak everywhere and once it caught on fire! Having a solid neighbor nearby that was able to help my cousins and I was such a relief

At the risk of sounding old - neighbors used to be much more helpful to each other. We could easily stay home because we had retired folks that lived close by and maybe couldn’t baby sit all the time but could be available if an emergency came up

Parenting without a village sucks - my husband and I have been on two dates in almost six years

As a kid who was often home alone at that age:

Also maybe have a safe grown up for emergencies that aren’t emergencies but will freak a kid that age out like: if the dishwasher starts leaking everywhere, if the electricity goes out, if they are scared but not 911 or call parent scared.

Make sure they know how to make some basic meals safely - how to make themselves feel safe - what to do if someone comes to the door - and most importantly reinforce constantly to never tell anyone they are home alone, even friends, because you never know who that person will tell.

I was okay! And lots of kids would be - but if you have neighbors you trust or a friend who lives nearby it’s always helpful for your kiddo to have back up.

Another vote for Hakaar’s

But also - they are expensive because they curate and only have the best pieces

If you are on a budget I recommend watching auctionzip and EstateSales.net - I have gotten some awesome mid century pieces this way and also at garage sales or church rummage sales

It’s a bit of a grind to check local thrift and “antique malls” but you can sometimes find good value there as well

Also don’t discount the old Facebook marketplace

Good luck!

Hello and soon to be welcome!

Posting a bit more about yourself would be helpful to plug you into groups but based on what you have posted …

We have so many fantastic greenway trails and parks - close hiking and natural places. You will be able to pick a new place every weekend and be busy for months.

If you are into volunteering in your spare time - we have a plethora of local organizations that always need help and it’s a great way to make like minded friends

Springfield is an okay city for the most part - like any town if it’s size there are less desirable areas but if you mind your own business you will be fine even in those. Lots of local events to keep you busy if you are interested.

I would 100% recommend starting at the library - they often have resources on what’s happening around town.

I have actually filmed there and the owners were very accommodating at the time - I know one of them has a daughter who lived near Branson

They have a visitors center we used for meals and staging - I seem to remember it being a decent size but can’t say for certain as it was about 12 years ago

It’s worth keeping on a back up list - lots of room for tents, if they have maintained the bathrooms no need for portapotties, and event tents could be attached to the visitors center

When we filmed there we used the space for free in the off season and I fell in love

Currently trying to convince my husband it would be worth buying and trying to find investors 😂

It’s an hour away - I got down voted for 15 minutes

I stand by my recommendation- they have a building that can be used for weather. A blacksmith, a pottery shop, and a partially built castle

The place is awesome

I care 0% what a Nixa council member thinks about ANYTHING

Folks aren’t anti development- they are anti shoddily built apartment complexes that will look like shit in 20 years across the street from a beloved park that already has shady access because the road needs to be redone

I think folks would be fine with condos or townhomes there - but we really don’t need more apartments in that area.

There are several cool spots near Joplin - wildcat glades - grand falls -walter woods… all great places and could be combined for a long day trip

Neosho has the bicentennial nature area which used to be part of crowder. My grandfather actually grew up on that land and when I was little we would go walking there - 30 years ago you could still see the foundations of some homes.
Neosho also has a pretty cool fish hatchery and hiking at Morse Park

Well considering they keep reducing bus routes - the kids who have to walk to school or further to bus routes DO need more sidewalks

What kind of fucking planner didn’t put sidewalks everywhere anyway?

If you work in a school aren’t you a mandatory reporter?

If the girls are creeped out then it’s an issue

Does SPS have an anonymous reporting system? Have you talked to Dr Lathan? She does not strike me as someone to put up with this shit

We have participated in the plant CSA at gooseberry bridge farm as well as the food CSA at urban roots

Urban roots has various sizes of shares you can buy and it’s my understanding that everyone just gets a percentage of what successfully grows (sort of like buying stocks but in a farm)

As a vegetarian I thought this was great - because we will eat all veggies - but for folks who are pickier or don’t like certain veggies it’s not so great. You can also put out a table for folks to leave veggies they know they won’t use for others to pick up who would.

I would recommend having both a CSA and a farm stand where people can buy what they want. If you need the CSA for the capital to get started then go for it - but make sure people know if it’s a bad growing season their shares will be small.

In a farm share I personally love things that are harder to grow in a back yard: corn, bell peppers, carrots are all hard for me for some reason and I end up buying from mama jeans

How do you feel about newer CR-Vs?

Have been looking for a small suv and they are near the top of my list thanks to a 97 civic that I drove for 10 years and still see around after selling to a neighbor
