Have to wonder what sort of butt-hurt this person suffered in Connecticut, or maybe their ex lives here. There's a reason they're called "Maine-iacs".

Just this. No Welcome Wagon, but we'll help you clear out your driveway with our snowblower or change your flat tire for you. We may not be the friendliest bunch, but we are, as a whole, pretty damned helpful.

Really, really cool. And I just love "Podunk" as a word; didn't realize it came from a native tribe. TIL.

Far past time. This is one of those things that's actually done but never talked about. Keeping somebody "alive" just because we can is cruel. If you don't already have an end-of-life directive, GET one.

Lake Winnemaug in Watertown can be pretty nice. You know the ice is thick enough when you see the ice fishing! Parking (and a porta-san) and picnic tables/public access off Lake Winnemaug Road.

Lived in Black Rock for several years, right on Grovers Avenue. Pros: nice neighborhood feeling, walkable to several bars, restaurants, Harborview Market, the seawall is great for a stroll, living near the water is awesome. Cons: Grovers Avenue was LOUD with unmuffled motorcycle brigades, lots of traffic to/from St. Mary's, and I came out one morning to find my car up on milk crates as my wheels had been stolen. Cops laughed at me when I filed a police report. But rent was much cheaper than even Norwalk, and Black Rock has a good vibe imho.

Might be better off just using Stratford, CT, then? I don't know how often they update/maintain.
And hey! Long Island is just a quick ferry trip away, amiright? LOL!

I freaking ADORE Witch Bitch Thrift - discovered them at the Punk Rock Flea Market in Southington. They DO have plus size clothing and really cool vintage-y stuff.

That site lets you sort by zip code. If you ever find yourself west of the river, there's a little "independent charity thrift shop trail", if you will, which would take you to the three shops at Southbury Training School, The Upper Room (Southbury), Safe Haven Thrift (Southbury), The Red Barn (Woodbury), and The Clothes Tree (Bantam), among others. HMU if you take a trek; I'm the manager of The Red Barn. :D

Depending on your area, thrift shops would love donations like that! Little local tends to be better than Goodwill or Savers IMHO.

There's a little cluster of thrift shops in the Woodbury/Southbury area: two on the grounds of Southbury Training School, one in Bennett Square in Southbury (Safe Haven Thrift), another off Route 6 in Southbury called "The Upper Room", and just up the road in Woodbury you have The Red Barn thrift shop. Days and hours for the latter two are somewhat limited but worth arranging your schedule for. Make a day of it and hit up Carole Peck's Good News Cafe in Woodbury, and Soulbury in Woodbury too - right on your way to New Morning Market!
