Maybe dictatorships are more environmentally conscious than democracies, so use fewer lights?

Bradbury wrote the short story (The Fireman) the novel is based on at UCLA’s library - he wasn’t a student or a professor but could freely use the books as reference and rent a typewriter for 10 cents an hour

Isn’t this the backstory to some manga - train a group together than test them by having one half kill the other half? Wonder if this was the inspiration.
