Does this actually impact the rat's mental function in any way, or do the cells just act like a rat's brain cells? I would guess it's the latter.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure my basic, cheapest you can buy phone plan gives me way more than that. And I'd been at risk of going over it at times just using Tumblr for a few hours a week back in the day.

I imagine you'd have to do some pretty major upgrades to the physical Infrastructure and for something that would have no real benefit to most people over much slower speeds.

That's crazy small. Can you just not download games or watch videos at all?

The text adventure story ones remind me of dreams, too, in the way they jump around and have an element of randomness but are still semi-coherent.

Sure, and there's a place for that, but this is something that's designed to basically be like a smarter version of Alexa. First and foremost, you want to know that you can use it in public, in front of your kids, and at work without any worry that it will say anything inappropriate. You want to feel confident that any information it gives you is completely factual and honest. The AI just isn't smart enough to make its own judgments on those things and make them well. It's not a truly thinking consciousness, so the only want to get it to function the way they need it to is to constrain it.

I mean, it's an AI assistant. I don't think you want it to be free thinking. Someone might make one with fewer restrictions for different purposes, but you really don't want an AI assistant that's just going to spit out whatever wild shit an unfiltered AI might come up with. You want it to only give accurate information and you want it to consistently behave in appropriate ways.

What selective pressure would exist that makes it a disadvantage to want a romantic relationship that would cause us to evolve away from them?

Alternatively, they could make us better people by modelling behaviours like good conflict resolution skills and mindfulness.

I feel like I've seen better image to video animations. This looked more like the two images morphing together than the dog moving.

If it was good enough. I don't think the types of AI we have right now are something you could form a genuine connection with. They don't have thoughts and opinions of their own. In a lot of ways it might be easier to get attached to a little beep boop cleaning robot that doesn't pretend to have thoughts and feelings that it's not genuinely experiencing.
