I didn’t say that, somebody else did. I’m just refuting the notion that the west has somehow ignored Syria, when in reality we are all trying to figure out how to get aid to affected Syrians and have donated millions to them

Do you understand how expensive flying was back in the day…like no, American Airlines is not going to give you a first class experience like Emirates, but you’re also not paying $20,000 for a ticket from an airline subsidized with billions in oil revenue

Are you joking right now? The US alone is giving millions to Syria in aid. It’s just very hard to get aid into Syria and to make sure it’s going to the right places. Straight up falsehood

No, they don’t? Did you open the link? Median income in the US is $70,000 a year. Half of workers make below that, not 95%

What possible benefits would African nations see by cutting off all ties with Europe? Sounds like a knee-jerk reaction that would ultimately hurt Africa rather than help it.

They said the same thing about the USSR and China and Japan. India is hitting 5 or 6% growth - at that rate, it will take decades for it to even catch up to Germany or Japan, much less the US or China.

Indians really live in a world where they think they’re the center of the universe don’t they. You do realize the US lobbies for dozens of countries to buy its weapons systems, right…? Like we do the same around the world, you aren’t special. Your economy is smaller than California’s

I don’t think anyone needs to sanction India lol. Or give it anymore attention. Who honestly cares what india thinks or does, it’s barely a regional power on a good day.

I mean I just said it? She was very good at manipulating her media image and doing things that got her maximum exposure. And she was never stale, every album she released was like she reinvented herself. Look at the change she went through from high pitched Minnie Mouse voice with ratty street urchin hair and clothes in Like a Virgin to where she was in Papa Don’t Preach or Like a Prayer. She managed to constantly stay on top of what was in style and what would garner her attention.
And that’s stuff a lot of other celebrities are not as good at. She was incredibly intelligent and business minded. She wasn’t out there doing drugs and acting like a mess, she carefully crafted an image and the media swallowed it whole. And frankly that takes a lot more skill than just being able to sing a pop song well

Idk I mean you don’t have to like her music, but she was an excellent entertainer who was a mastermind at publicity and knew how to get attention in a way many other singers didn’t. I think that’s part of why she’s considered so impressive: her voice really isn’t that great or amazing and she’s not the prettiest singer to exist, but she still knew how to blow up the news and make sure everybody was talking about her

What that leaves out is that many of the affected regions of the earthquake are controlled by rebels, not the Assad regime. So by landing aid in Damascus, Assad controls where it goes and can easily refuse to give rebel-held territory aid. It is more complicated than just “west bad”, the west is hesitant to send aid over that will not actually reach the people it is intended to
