And she was never stale, every album she released was like she reinvented herself. Look at the change she went through from high pitched Minnie Mouse voice with ratty street urchin hair and clothes in Like a Virgin to where she was in Papa Don’t Preach or Like a Prayer. She managed to constantly stay on top of what was in style and what would garner her attention.

And that’s stuff a lot of other celebrities are not as good at. She was incredibly intelligent and business minded. She wasn’t out there doing drugs and acting like a mess, she carefully crafted an image and the media swallowed it whole. And frankly that takes a lot more skill than just being able to sing a pop song well
