you wildin' 😅 but whatever you think about demon slayer... you can't deny its impact.

Better Call Saul is just one show though... when i implied 2019 being a much better year than 2022, it's about how many good shows there were and how good those good shows were.

2019 was fuckin' great dawg. I'm just remembering everything, but to add more: The 2nd seasons of both The OA and Succession dropped that year (arguably their best seasons). Looking For Alaska was fucking great too. The Promised Neverland was incredible (before it fell off in season 2). etc. etc.

because the good shows were reeeeeeaaally fucking good and left an impact.

that year we had Demon Slayer, Euphoria, Crash Landing on You etc. also personal hidden gems like Too Old to Die Young etc. And a whole lot more I'm forgetting. TV just went into creative overdrive.

As someone who've been watchin' shows religiously for like a decade now, trust me 2014 and 2019 are the best years in television over the past decade.

edit: why the downvotes? 😐

I liked My Dress-up Darling. I needa catch up on the new season of My Hero Academia too. But...

I didn't watch much anime this year, and honestly, I don't think a lot of anime got buzz this year. And when I say buzz I mean the kind of buzz that would attract casual anime viewers like myself.

Spy x Family, My Dress-up Darling and Chainsaw Man are the only ones that seem to have had any buzz outside the hardcore anime fandom this year tbh.

mmmm... 🤔 I have 2:

  • Too Old to Die Young - A stylistic crime drama masterpiece in my opinion. Not everyone will appreciate it's slow pace, slow conversations and genuinely unpredictable plot... but I did.

  • Desenfrenadas (Unstoppable) - There's no show quite like it... well since I've seen there have been 2 that seems to be inspired by it, but none as in-depth or soulful. This show isn't missing a damn thing... all while being a fun fucking show to watch.

edit: I forgot Anna is pretty unknown too.

  • Anna: I can't think of a better post-apocalyptic series to be honest... whether U.S. produced or otherwise. Great storytelling, with an abundance of emotional depth. Outstanding production design and cinematography too.

If they're "incredibly concerned" about budget... then why renew it?

> At that price, Euphoria is a massive failure.

C'mon, there's no way you can say that with a serious face. This show is one of the most discussed in recent years. Even Bratz just did an animation of the popular "Bitch you better be jokin'" scene. Regardless of the budget most shows don't get to the level of relevance Euphoria has gotten.

i mean it's not Game of Thrones/House of Dragon level sure, but it's definitely popular. HBO's most popular ongoing show besides House of the Dragon right? With quite the cultural impact too. And it's not like it's more expensive than stuff like House of the Dragon or Westworld is it?

Also, I don't think HBO is ever really overconcerned with budget the same way, let's say... Netflix are. The show is a success so they'll keep it going for the foreseeable future.

I know /u/AfricanRain is gettin' downvoted here, but from what I've seen, it might not be a ridiculous argument to make at all.

> The difference in reception is NOT because of IP strength but the quality of the adaptation.

Is it really? Even if it's a bad show, I expected ROP to garner a lot more online discussion than it ultimately did. That one post made here awhile back about how there was basically no talks of ROP on twitter especially when compared to HOTD was very accurate. ROP was dead as fuck on twitter. Not that there weren't any tweets about it... but for the most part, it never had a huge buzz, people just didn't seem to care that it was something that existed. That's the vibe I was getting.

Casually using Tik Tok and Instagram, I got the same vibes. Users mentioned, memed, made videos about, and discussed even Euphoria more than they did ROP. I just think for younger audiences LOTR might be irrelevant to be honest... because even if it was bad, quality wouldn't stop it from having cultural relevance, even if that cultural relevance comes due to mockery. We've seen it many times before.

the whole downvote thing is still such a mystery to me and i've been here for years. everything gets downvoted... it seems automatic. are these real people, or is it bots are something??

and i question if it's real people because i never use the downvote button... i sometimes forget it's there so it's baffling when people use it for legit posts. or maybe some people just think of or use reddit differently? like... "oh i don't like this post, downvote!"?

anyways, i think a great solution for this is to just make it compulsory for users to comment why they downvote something whenever they do.

i have a lot of favourite 2010s shows tbh:

Shameless, Les Revenants, Game of Thrones, Black Mirror, Spartacus, Skam, The Affair, Inside No. 9, Banshee, Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Girls, The Americans, Broad City, You're the Worst, Legion etc.

> which major 2000s series have you seen?

I've seen a lot of them actually:

Lost, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Gossip Girl etc.

I know that a lot of those went over into the next decade (because they were major of course). I'd say my favourite show from the 00s is Skins though. That's the one I'll rewatch every few years. Loved the early seasons of Veronica Mars too. But overall, I don't fuck with 00s television much, especially when it comes to aesthetics, you know.
