I mean the murder rate is in line with that of the last several years. Still sad and way too high but not really an anomaly or increase.
I also can’t seem to find anything saying violent crime is up this year versus years previous.

Having this much focus on city council pensions is kinda wild. That’s such a tiny tiny portion of the budget and tbqh a very reasonable thing have regardless…

Yea that’s totally. But I think I’m being reasonable to say that 2-3 roommates at $500-700 each gives you access to almost every major “popular” neighborhood in the city. Might not always be the nicest place but you def have access to most of the city

If you’re willing to have a roommate or two, the city is your oyster for $600 or so, but on your own, there’s really no chance unless you really scrape the bottom of the barrel.

Honestly it’s pretty mids lol. I just hold it near and dear to my heart cuz I went to Loyola and that was a spot people would get a slice at after the bars. I tried it again once last year and it’s solid but certainly not exceptional lol

Needs to come from the state cuz the city has no tax base - unless some miracle merged the city and county and we could actually fund basic services lol.

That’s nice and all, but I take issue with the idea that (1) we haven’t had elected officials that want the city to heal and (2) that wanting the city to heal means anything as far as policy change.
Unless the city/state implement widespread poverty alleviation measures and transformative transit/housing/jobs programs, then we will keep having lots of murders and shootings in the poorest parts of the city.

IMO the only true consumer-based individual action that would matter is ditching a car or becoming car-light. Both of which is way better for the environment than purchasing an electric car, which has significant environmental cost to make.

So $125k is a littttle tough but you can def find some around the $150-200k range in the following neighborhoods: Harwood, Barclay, waverly, better waverly, coldsteam-homestead-montebello (stay to the north side), new northwood, that entire stretch north of 33rd and east of york/greenmount and west of perring pkway/Hillen, garwyn oaks, forest park, Windsor hills, portions of the Hollins Market pigtown Union square areas.
I’m sure there are more, but my knowledge may be limited. Also you def can get cheaper than that 150-200k I mentioned above if you keep your eye out, just know that those under $150k are much more likely to have repair/reno needs that will prob push your “true” purchase costs higher.
Best of luck, and enjoy the remaining years/decades where it’s possible to buy a home in the northeast megapolis for such comically low prices!!

I’d disregard that above comment just a bit. The sentiment is sorta fine, but the idea that someone moving to Baltimore would be unable to move directly to the city without having lived in the suburbs for a year first is honestly pretty silly.
Pretty much any of the neighborhoods commonly listed in these “moving to Baltimore” posts would be fine, and you can just see which are closer to the MARC or even Light Rail to get you to BWI business district.
Popular neighborhoods are: fed hill, locust point, pigtown, Hollins market, Bolton hill, reservoir hill, midtown-Belvedere, mount Vernon, station north, fell’s point, canton, highlandtown, Paterson place, Charles village, Remington, hampden, Roland park, Ednor gardens-lakeside, waverly, etc.

No, but it contributes to them believing that a high murder rate in certain sections of the urban core is some magical phenomenon that has no root causes and can only be solved by pumping an even higher % of our resources into police who spend 96% of their time not actually solving violent crime lol

I’d vastly prefer someone who built a career in politics, specifically by winning local smaller elections and moving up versus someone who built a career in the private sector. If anything, someone who’s been working in the private sector longer will prob do a far worse job imo

China’s far from perfect, and pretty shitty in many ways after liberalization; but let’s not pretend the US wouldn’t be in a vastly better place had we spent the last decade or two doing Belt & Road shit instead letting out infrastructure dissolve lol.
