Huh. Some FB groups I'm part of frequently cite Golden Girls as a show to watch for smart thinking women (I can't really think of any other turn of phrase, but I hope you get what I mean) but because it was way before my time, I'm unsure if I'll be able to watch it.

I stopped watching SoA after Otto's prison rape scene. That was it for me.

I'd probably rate The Shield and Oz on par with each other.

I haven't watched past the pilot of The Sopranos and I think it was one of those shows that ended up passing me by (I missed it). The Wire is the same but I have read Homocide: A Year on the Killing Streets.

I would rate the Italian mafia series Gomorrah as more interesting than The Sopranos, but it's a hard watch too. Like I said, I think that type of show is now past me.

I read David Simon's book but the series was before my time. I am not sure if Baltimore is the same these days (I am not American) but it gave an amazing depiction of the futility of life in the projects.
