Yeah Namdar means the mall is done or is well on its way to being done. I guess the SoNo collection is attracting people away. This never really struck me as a great mall anyway. When I lived in Fairfield, we would always go to the CT Post Mall.

Lakeside in Verona (or really any good Jewish-style deli in North Jersey has them.) Nana’s in Livingston is also a good choice.

I have worked all around the world and I have only seen police with rifles like this in hotels in the developing world (where they are very common). What is your home country?

Nah. I have friends from Honduras and El Salvador and those places have MUCH higher levels of violence than the US.

Oh man you are talking about the Northway Mall I think. It’s a pretty notorious mall. I just watched a dead mall video on it last week.

Well I am wondering if maybe there was a specific threat.
Seeing these guys in the shopping mall really does bring us one step closer to developing countries with high levels of violence, which I guess we have—considering all the mass shooting events.

That’s the Bergen Town Center?
Are those rifles?
I am not used to seeing cops with rifles like that except in the subway/transit centers, and once inside of the Barbie Department in a Soriana in Mexico City. Have people seen this in other shopping malls in NJ?

Reply to As a lifelong Bergen resident: Fuck Google Maps. Yeah, it's only 8 miles, but you try making the trip from Bergenfield to Yonkers just to get kielbasa. And this happens with any store, not just Polish delis. Sidenote: Does anyone know a good place to get Kielbasa near Bergen? by BootPastaHeroin
Wallington or Garfield have tons of Polish immigrants and great deli’s, butchers, supermarkets, restaurants and bars.

Reply to What are you favorite signs that it's the holiday season in New Jersey, past or present? by TimSPC
The old Apollo Flags (and cards) in the Channel Lumber Plaza in Totowa would put one GIANT light-up decoration that you would walk through to get into the store. It used to be a snowman and then it was a Christmas Tree I think. It spanned the whole front of the store and you would walk through it to get into the store.

Reply to 7-Eleven is selling 3 Newark Stores (790 Broad St, 131 Market St, 2 Ferry St) by DrixxYBoat
I don’t think this is a big loss. One thing we have always had in Newark is corner stores/bodegas and 7eleven isn’t a particularly good corner store. On the contrary, I think stores like 7eleven actually take business away from good corner stores.
And who even knew there was a 7eleven in the Bamberger’s building?

Reply to How safe is the area of Lower Roseville, west of Branch Brook Park? by Actual-Knee-1399
100% Lower Roseville is the better, safer hood. Where you mentioned (around 6th Ave—like where Park and Roseville meet at the Bravo market) is not one of the better sections of that area but it’s also not terrible and I would walk there at 10PM and not be too concerned. There has been a bit of violence on that stretch of Roseville over the last 5 years or so but nothing compared to the neighborhood west of University Hospital, which is IMO, one of the places where there is consistent gun violence and a lot of gang activity.
Hopefully you are street smart and you know how to stay aware of your surroundings. When you live in Newark, you will learn street-by-street which are the good ones to travel down (on foot or cycle). Roseville has a lot of families that have lived there for generations and most of the numbered streets are fine. I would plan your route home from work carefully and stick to it. Personally, I would stay by the park and stay off Orange St unless you want Spanish food. I would recommend staying on the main roads like Central (that part of Central is fine but I don’t walk west of 1st Street on Central) and then down 1st St should also be a good route. That’s just my 2 cents.
And where you are living you are close to Branch Brook which is absolutely one of the gems of Newark (along with the beautiful basilica and Bloomfield Ave for shopping and Calandra’s Bakery). You also are close to a few light rail stops if you wanna get downtown quickly, as well as the 34 NJTransit bus which you also could take home from work (runs down Roseville to University Heights and downtown).
Good Luck!
