Can’t wait for required licensure so your Home owners insurance company drops you for replacing a rotten board.

You are fear mongering. You are acting like your experience is the only valid one and using that as a reason to force others to do things how you think is best.

Even better, when home owners need to fight an insurance company for any relief. That will be the best. What was once a uncomfortable conversation with a contractor for a resolution will become an insurance company denying claims and a homeowner who is already suffering then needing to fight a court case to be denied relief at the end anyway.

*a voluntary program is perfect and everyone gets what they want. Comfort for those who need it and the ability to hire who they want for the others.

This is because in the past 50 years the majority of state politicians are those WFH yuppies. Current makeup has over 50% born in NY/MA/CT and other wealthy suburbs in east coast cities. People wonder why traditional VT values are no longer represented, this is the reason. The people making laws are doing so with the values they think makes VT what it is but are unfortunately, often mistaken. This is not to say they have ill intent, just that they are wrong. How can you grow up in a wealthy suburb of Boston or New Haven and know what is best to keep VT the place you wanted to move?

We have as a state, been heavily gentrified in the past 30 years. The guy stealing shit in Rutland is the outcome of this. Rent and land costs force natives into what are effectively ghettos while rich out of staters buy old farm houses then insist on a state licensure program to work on them.

VT is fucked. When Scott is leaves office we will be even more fucked.

DIY work? Because there was some sort of “licensure” for contractors back in 1803. Stop fear mongering DIY work.

Bigger issue is probably the fact that when rehabbing a home like that, as you said, accessing every place there is outdated building technology is nearly impossible and there are most like unseen bones 200 years old that are still playing an integral function in the house.

McDonalds actually has better benefits than a lot of small business.

I know it goes against you narrative but it is true. For the people who stay a year and the franchise starts to invest in, they do better then a lot of local construction companies who hire in the spring and fire in the fall.

This is the new VT. My hope is that it stays in chittenden county and the extreme NIMBY in most of the rest of the state will prevent this.

I’ve seen local lumberyards keep out Home Depot, local hotels keep out chains, locals who wanted to look down their nose keep out chain restaurants and local “concerned citizens” keep out housing developments.

I hope it all continues that way. If you want the shit you left behind, go back to where you came from.

I think in general this sub is full of poorly informed people. Reddit in general shows the power of populism in discourse. Unfortunately every previous iteration with a similar voting structure has resulted in the echo chamber that Reddit is.

This style communication forum is a old model, slashdot was the first to use it and it ended the same way there. Popular opinion overrode facts on a regular basis.

Every once in a while you will find a well cited post and it is awesome. More often than not though you find it self referential like Wikipedia has the ability to become.

Misinformation is posted here, on purpose or simply through ignorance, people like the message and upvote it until down the line somebody uses that mistake as a citation in a future discussion.

For instance this guy didn’t even post anything except a title and edited blurb to insult a political candidate then freaks out enough to edit his post when he gets trolled. The hypocrisy is amusing but it clearly illustrates he does not want any sort of dialogue. He wants internet points from the 18-32 white male upper middle class demographic that makes up most of Reddit.

Unfortunately this seems to be a large demographic on Reddit. I guess not unfortunately, that is like saying racists are a large demographic at klan rallies. This is their space and if others want to participate we should, if not respect, at least accept the idiosyncrasies that accompany it.

I dont really care much either way to be honest. When I really want a discussion I’ll talk to a real person who I find interesting and intelligent. When I want a shot of electronic dopamine I can alway come here and say something like “Bernie good” or “Malloy has sex with eagles” and the masses will upvote as much as they can. For all the times in between I will keep reading this sub to see what the demographic in the state I live in and love so much is becoming. Try to engage every once in a while and enjoy the fact I don’t need to complete for housing.

*holy shit that was long. I wrote it while having my morning coffee. Sorry for the rant.

She was pretty unknown out of politically active circles.

*folks here hate to admit it but she was predicted to be behind early on from a lack of name recognition.

>For months, the marquee race of this election season had seemed like a much tighter contest; in fact, in its early days, the primary had looked like Gray's to lose. She had statewide name recognition from her official post, institutional support within the Democratic establishment and an elevator pitch that seemed precision-engineered to appeal to Vermonters who value homegrown talent:

*The iPad decided I meant FTC not FTX and fixed it for me automatically after I typed it. I didn’t even notice. I fixed it.

This is not about Balint or Gray specifically. I appreciate your response. Reddit does not typically reward contentious issues as it is designed to promote groupthink by its very voting mechanism. Just look at the voting for asking a question people don’t like.

It was a general question of, does the source matter. I think the Twitter Biden laptop thing made me think about how so much of politics in the past 2 to 3 years has been about the messenger not the message.

Not to say the Biden laptop thing was right wrong or anything but it seems lately politics has been more about how information is exposed than what the information is.

Does the fact that the LGTBQ pac was 90% financed by a crypto bro somehow diminish its message. Does the scotus leak somehow override the over turning of roe v wade. Does email being hacked by a malicious actor somehow make the content of the emails less impactful.

We live in the Information Age and are now a global community. These things are to be expected but people still act surprised.

I guess I’m more wondering out loud but thank you for engaging in good faith.

So the Gray/Balint thing does bring up a interesting debate.

Does the source of super pac money reflect on the candidate. Like over 90% of the Baliant super pac came from FTX crypto bros. That money was integral to making Balint a household name and helping her win the seat.

I guess the bigger question is, Does it matter where money or info comes from in an election cycle. Does it reflect on the candidate when powers they can’t influence buy access or exposure on their behalf. Similarly, does it matter if data is leaked or stolen if it is relevant to an election. Can the source of the data offset the outcome?

Just wondering others peoples takes.

I did not mean the organization, Lower case another way. Different way. Alternate way.... (the iPad liked to capitalize shit when I make typos). I meant the new state hospital built near CVMC at the top of the hill.

Combined, all the mid level housing for those with mental illness there are about 50 beds in all of Washington county.

I dont think you understand the industrial meat production market. Or economic boycotts in general. But yes, buying Boston crisp lettuce is ok and doesn’t add anything to the industrial meat complex.

There is no way to avoid globalization and thus everything you buy supports companies that have their finger in your choosen protest but by not actively participating you reduce demand of any given sector.

For instance, every pound of meat I buy from a local farmer is directly equal to one less pound of meat that needs to be raised in a commercial meat facility, assuming I choose to keep eating meat. If enough people oppose commercial meat and take the same action demand is reduced, supply is reduced and less animals are raised in industrial meat.

Likewise every piece of paper that is used is a tree that is cut down (obviously not a whole tree but you get the point).

That is the basis of economic protest and boycotts that have been shown to work. This is not something like buying gasoline which is a requirement to participate in society with no viable affordable option otherwise. This is an extra couple bucks for a ream of hemp paper.

It is the same as screaming about human right violations and then buying apple products. There is enough competition that you don’t need to actively support any specific vendor to participate in society.

Vote with your dollars. Given the dysfunctional state of politics it really is almost the only agency you have to voice you opinion.

It’s not silly though.

Not when there are options for people who feel that passionately about a topic. Who knows, maybe it was printed on hemp paper. It does show a level of “I only want convenient change”.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

For instance, I am opposed to industrial meat farming. I won’t buy red meat at a grocery store or restaurant. Saying, ohhh well.. thats society looks hypocritical.
