It happens everywhere. I make sure I have plenty of extra room and get a running start before the last car. I’m halfway past them before the have much time to be offended.

Not sure if still true, but at one point Mount monadnock was the second most popular mountain climb in the world. Mt Fuji was number one.

Reply to December in NH questions from tourist by skinproblem1894
Footwear first. I suspect that if you do any significant hiking, you will need something insulated and water proof for the 0 to 50cm of snow that could be on the ground in December.
The snow in early December is statistically not expected to be significant. But, it’s impossible to say we couldn’t have a 1/2 meter in a single storm. But wouldn’t that be awesome.
Cross country skiing is more popular that time of year than traditional hiking. Again the snow matters.
Most lakes won’t be safe for ice fishing yet. You can get a fishing license as a visitor. Conway is a beautiful area with streams and lakes in the area. It will be cold. 0C degrees during the day +/- 10.

Reply to Suburbs to live near Lowell/Nashua, 26M by Marty-McFried
It absolutely depends on your budget. The best places typically cost the most. You’re already going to pay mass income tax and if you live in NH you are going to pay a bit of premium on property taxes.

The good news is it’s a slow time between leaves and skiing. I recommend water features like the falls up north. Also the standard are Crawford notch and Franconia notch. Beautiful year round.

The oak trees have been waiting and are now dominating with the brown. Everywhere brown. Was on Lake Winnipesaukee today and looking at the mountains, what struck me was the evergreens standing out on the muted trees.

Agree with every point. Being a true purple state is an advantage in elections like 2024 where both parties will be executing.

In the age of internet, 100 million dollar campaigns, private jets and 24 hour news makes the primary system much different. I question the need for a small state to go first. The small guy like Jimmy Carter isn’t going to win anymore.
The money to the state is nice.
I think the country should do a lottery for all 50 positions.

My in-laws lived in Wilton. When my son was little, if we heard the train coming, we would have to jump in the car and watch it cross at the bottom of burns hill. He loved trains. So much Brio.

I misread your title at first. I thought it said that central NH needed more “trans people”. I was waiting for how that was going to help the long lead times for trades people. Laughed when I went back to reread the title.

Make sure to enjoy your ride up. If you’re late then northern Mass to southern NH is likely good.
If this is the case, back roads will provide a better experience than 93.

Reply to Anyone have success with ditching oil for Heat Pumps in their home? by Bravely_Default
We had what was described as a hybrid furnace in our last house. The heat pump would cool and heat above a fixed outdoor temperature. Perhaps 15f. Below that, a conventional oil burner would fire. The changeover temp was based on the efficiency cross over point of the two fuels. I live in New Hampshire about 50 miles from the ocean. The oil consumption was perhaps 20% of what it had been on full oil.
I am adding a mini split in my current home to supplement the existing oil burner. (Have solar).
