Is there one moment or line from the book that didn't make it into the show but you wish it had?
Often when I see the adaptation of a book I wait and wait for my favorite bit and then yell at the TV when it doesn't show up, lol. Wondered what that's like on the other side

Try reading it once for the story and again for the symbolism. It's easier to tease out that the rain is a symbol of loss or whatever when you know that a character is about to die. Plus, then you still get to enjoy the book without making yourself nuts

Get a velvety or fleecy one and get throw or twin size - a full size one is like fighting an octopus.

Kids are great unless you like money, sleep or sex lol
Seriously though, try a weighted blanket. They are lovely when you read and (except for the smell) a lot like having a fat ass dog parked on top of you

I'm mostly an eReader person too (love the backlight on kobo) but my kid likes me to read what he's reading so I needed a solution for those pesky paper book days lol
Honestly, a sack of potatoes wrapped in an electric blanket is the same as a dog... idk how you're going to simuate dog breath though lol

Other than a six month search for exactly the right bedside lamp so that it perfectly illuminates my book without shining light into my eyes?
I need a fat dog on my lap (or laying beside me) a charged vape and a stash of hard candies
(FYI the perfect lamp is a 24 inch knockoff tiffany with the switch on an extra long cord)

So the cycle can't start with poor sleep? Even in say an athlete who develops a sleep disorder or a child with night terrors?
Genuinely asking

Your privilege is showing
Try going four days without sleep (due to medical conditions) and then see how you feel

Is it possible that people who sleep well are more likely to have the energy to exercise?

I hate the racism and misogyny in older books but I still enjoy the stories. I'm not worried that I'm going to steal land from the Indigenous when I reread the Little House books (spoiler - Ma's incessant bigotry and Pa's disregard of the Treaty Line are nothing when you get to Happy Golden Years and Mr Boast tries to straight out BUY Laura's daughter). I think that learning where we came from is part of the process of changing where we're going and that reading about historical beliefs and actions is part of that.

Reply to What are your "reading goals"? by basketsnbeer
I backed off a bit on reading goals because it was making me frustrated. Took a while to admit to myself that I can set all the goals I want but that won't stop me from being in the mood to reread something silly, or being sad and wanting one of my wallowing books
I do set reading goals tied to release dates - I'm rereading Jules Verne before the next season of Around the World in 80 Days comes out
I am also trying to prioritize Canadian authors

I'm such a book nerd I usually read them a half dozen times or more. While it's fun to geek out on the symbolism and pick books apart, the first time I read one it's all about the wow
