Stop this. VR/AR isn't going to do any better this time around. I know, back in 2011 you were all convinced that VR, Bitcoin, solar freakin' roadways, Elon Musk, and Ron Paul were going to save the world, but that was wrong. On every count. VR isn't going to happen. Maybe when the next hype cycle comes around in 20 years, or maybe the one after that. For now it's a toy.

No, it's not. The internet stopped being a force for good and a reliable place to learn things more than ten years ago. I don't feel a pressing urge to spread open a pipeline of shitty advertisements and conspiracy theories to Uganda. They have enough problems.

But what if the development we're doing is entirely in the wrong direction?

Yes, adults cannot return to being children, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're growing in the right direction.

"Ah well, I have a heroin addiction now. Just goes to show how we humans are always growing and changing, and even if it makes for hard times, it's all for the best! I'm definitely going somewhere with all this!"

I know, that was part of the bit.

If your only argument against slavery is that it's financially unviable (which you're completely making up, but we'll take it as true for your benefit), then there's really no reason to eschew anything that's profitable.

Also yeah, slavery is still incredibly profitable. Happens to this day.
