Trains travel on two rails, this is what you think of as a railroad track. Subways can have a third rail. This is not for steering the train, but for carrying electricity.

Reply to comment by Cheap_Coffee in These housing numbers are insane. In some towns the cost to buy a house is 10x the average salary. by LopsidedWafer3269
Well, paying cash is a little bit complicated. First, a lot of people pay cash because they are using the sale of another house. Person A buys a house for 500k, then the market took off, he sells it for 800k to buy another house for 800k. That is a cash purchase. Second, banks are doing cash equivalent loans. This means the buyer is pre approved for the loan, no risk of the loan falling through. This is debt, but cash to the buyer. And then finally yeah, you have people who have cash on hand to buy housing.

I am married and still not an expert, but I do know this guy needs professional help. Having your partner do some so unimaginably horrible creates a conflicting image of someone who you love dearly, and your brain can’t rationalize these two incomparable facts. He wants to forgive because he still sees her as who she was before this tragedy - probably the most important cornerstone of his life that he would do anything for. Reconciling how someone you know like that can do something so out of character is going to take lots of therapy to work through and unpack.

There are more republicans in California than there are residents in Alabama. Big population states have big populations. Mass is the 14th most populous state.

This feels like such a petty thing to stop. Like most consumer goods, all chain restaurants, and our food suppliers are all owned by a handful of corporations. But when Microsoft wants to put world of Warcraft and call of duty on gamepass? That’s going too far.

Reply to I93 south between Stoneham and Winchester. wtf. Why did we give 3 billion back to tax payers when we can't pave our highways correctly. Let's fix this problem by fountain19
That's not how cities work. Cities set a budget. In this case, Mass DOT would make this part of their request to the governor when he sets the budget. All money that comes in goes to the general fund, unless it is allocated to different parts of the budget (like gas tax revenue, for example). If there is too much money in the general fund, then by mass law it gets refunded to the tax payers.

Reply to Is it more efficient for me to heat my home with my ductless mini split or my old boiler? by CatoFriedman
Short answer is the mini split.

Long answer is it depends on a number of variables like temp and humidity, but heat pumps generally cheaper to run than a gas boiler down to low single digits. It's cheaper than oil even lower than that. So heat pumps are cheaper to run for most of the temperature range that we get here in Massachusetts. There will be a few times during the year where gas or maybe even oil will be cheaper, but those days will be uncommon.

This subreddit is literally about data representation, not about the content itself. This isn't about trusting data.

My source is the chart. Literally it shows moving from 4 to 3. If this chart isn’t capturing it went from 8 to 3, then this isn’t beautiful data.

From…. Number 4. Moving from the number 4 to 3 spot isn’t exactly a monumental shift. The bigger story is Turkey absolutely slaying the cherry market.

Don’t do air to water heat pump. Do air source heat pump so you can get AC as well. Air to water also won’t do a good job of heating your radiators, air to water heat pumps run at a much lower temp than gas boilers. You can’t use radiators for cooling due to condensation.
